Liked: Convenient place. Reasonable price compared to a guesthouse or hotel.
Disliked: Very uncomfortable bed. Small and cramped. Noisy waterside throughout the night. Small toilet and shower area

Disliked: Bathroom needed a scrub on ceiling and renewing of extraction vacuum. Bedroom was perfect 🌟
Feeling Youthful in our 60s
Liked: Location! Really close to the centre of Portree and bus stops. Close to the harbour, the Lump and waterfall. Skye is huge! Parking is across the road. Watch for the parking inspector. There every day, after 8am. Before 8 on Sunday. Staff were friendly and helpful. Laundry is a huge machine! Kitchen was well equipped and organised. Room 12- double with ensuite. Near the kitchen there’s an extra loo and shower. Although expensive, it isn’t if you look at other places on Skye. The screenshot shows prices for a double with ensuite 2027! This place is popular and is booked well in advance. The lounge! Super views and a great place to hang out. Unlike other hostels, it’s not closed during the day. If the weather is bad, you can sit safe and dry and watch.
Disliked: Laundry is £9 for a wash dry no matter how big or small the load. Stairs! But they’re cute! Signs needed to tell everyone the opening and closing time of the reception and the laundry room. Walls were paper thin but that’s true in many hotels too. A problem if you’re asleep and neighbours are awake at 3am and unzipping luggage and many people get up early to hike. No need for an alarm, but if you do set one…turn it off. Your neighbouring rooms can hear everything 😉 Large groups need to be mindful when using the kitchen as space is tight. We were assigned Room 14 for our first of 7 nights. It is tiny and only suitable for guests staying one or two nights. Room 15 faces the road. Need to have signs in several languages reminding people to be respectful and quiet. Like everywhere in the UK bathrooms are small and showers are a challenge but ask for help. Hot water warning signs should be boiling water. It’s a thing in the UK. 😳
Perfect for a quick and affordable stay on the island
Liked: Very friendly place. Nice people, clean spaces, good central location. The parking place is on the other side of the road and costs £3 for 3 hours. Is free from 20h to 8h. Theres also a breakfast that is good at a fine price of £6.5 per person. Its a hostel, so you have to deal with other people in your room and communities spaces, but as long as it’s possible was a nice stay.
Disliked: The mattress was uncomfortable.

Disliked: 1 shower / bathroom for 12 people is absolutely not enough and only 1 downstairs.

Full payment for all bookings will be charged at the time of booking. All major credit & debit cards are accepted excluding American Express.
All bookings will include a temporary membership fee per person per night. (Full, existing members of Hosteling Scotland and HI using these channels are not entitled to a membership refund). Individual reservations (Up to 9 people) - can cancel free of charge until 3 days before the arrival date.
If canceled within the 3 days before the arrival 100 percent of the total price will be charged.
Groups reservations (more than 9 people) - different policies and additional supplements will apply.
More than 8 weeks (57 days or more) 20% of total cost. 8 – 4 weeks (56- 29 days)
55% of total cost. 4 – 0 weeks (28 - 0 day)
100% of total cost.
No stag or hen parties are permitted at any youth hostel. Should guests be entitled to a refund or part refund please note that these are processed by Hosteling Scotland National Office, Stirling. It may take 7 to 10 working days from the date of cancelation request for the refund to be processed back onto the original card used.
Parties with children under 12 years will only be accommodated in private rooms, where available. Hosteling Scotland advises that additional notice be given to the destination youth hostel when traveling with children, to ensure that suitable accommodations is available. There is no capacity for extra beds or cots.
Check-in from 16.00 until 22.00 and check-out is until 10.00.Please inform of your expected arrival time in advance. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly using the contact details in your confirmation.
Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply.
