Don’t book with Short Stay St Andrews

Liked: The location is perfect, the beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped.

Disliked: My 1 star rating reflects Short Stay St Andrews, the letting agent, not the property itself. A week before my stay, Short Stay St Andrews contacted me via WhatsApp with my booking details. On arrival day, I received similar messages from two different numbers asking me to confirm via a link. Concerned about my personal information, I contacted the agent through their official WhatsApp number but received an automated response that didn’t answer my question. I also emailed them but received no reply by the following lunchtime, so I visited their office. There, I was told they were aware of these messages and that there had been a data leak. Despite having contacted them twice, I had not been informed. My email was finally answered four days later. This caused unnecessary stress at the start of my holiday, and I consider the service unacceptable. I would not recommend booking through Short Stay St Andrews. This experience has reinforced my preference for booking directly with independent hosts. Other example of booking with this agent are, I requested an early check-in of 30 minutes before the usual time was offered it for £30, and the welcome provisions included dishwasher tablets for a house without a dishwasher. As for the property: As another reviewer noted, the house needs a deep clean. I found a blood stain on the mattress protector when stripping the bed, the kitchen food-storage shelf was so sticky from tacky old paint that food packaging stuck to it, and there was dust and cobwebs under much of the furniture.

Great basic stay. Has everything you need

Liked: Great quiet location. Walking distance from beach and town. Had its own garden too. Hot shower with great water pressure and on site parking.

Disliked: I think place could defo do with a deep cleaning. It’s obviously been surfaced cleaned, but lots of webs and dust behind things. Wasn’t a fan of the toilet position. Body is pressed up against the wall and knees touched cabinet every time you used the loo. This is the only reason we wouldn’t stay here again. I think if they took the bath out, it would really help. Although I understand this isn’t an easy thing to do. Toilet is completely usable, it’s just not comfortable to use due to how cramped it is.

  Great location and nice stay

Liked: The location was great. Just a 5 minute walk into St Andrews.

Disliked: Garbage and recycle cans were full when we arrived (multiple unit building) and there was garbage blowing around the grounds. Nowhere to put out garbage/recycle.
