A disappointing experience overall, with a great location and breakfast but poor room arrangements
Liked: We particularly liked the hotel’s excellent location, the comfort of the beds in rooms and the breakfast. The location was very convenient for exploring Salzburg, especially with children, and the breakfast offered a good variety of options
Disliked: Unfortunately, several aspects of our stay were very disappointing. First, we were travelling with two children and specifically requested two rooms next to each other. However, we were assigned rooms 408 and 410, which were actually separated by couple of other rooms. This was far from what we had requested and made our stay with children less convenient. Furthermore, our room had a connecting door to the neighbouring room, which provided virtually no sound insulation. We could hear everything from the neighbouring room, including a guest coughing throughout the entire night. The lack of privacy and sound insulation was unacceptable, especially for a hotel of this standard. The second, and perhaps most disappointing, issue was the way the hotel handled a payment problem during online check-out. I was initially charged €369, was then informed that the payment had been cancelled, but subsequently another charge of €469 (€369 plus a €100 deposit) appeared. Both amounts remained deducted from my account. I had to contact my bank myself, even while travelling abroad and using roaming services, to resolve a problem that should never have occurred in the first place. Although I eventually received an explanation that the money would be refunded within several working days, the hotel’s response was particularly disappointing. When I explained that this was my money and that I might actually need it during my journey, there was no genuine concern, no sense of urgency and absolutely no effort to help. I was simply left to deal with the situation on my own, as if it were entirely my problem. For a hotel of this category, I expected much better organisation, communication and, above all, customer care. The location and breakfast were very good, but unfortunately, these positive aspects could not compensate for the overall experience.
