  A Genuine Alpine Escape Between Mountains, Lakes and Farmland

  Liked: Our stay at Grafbauer Farm was pure recreational holiday bliss in the beautiful Salzkammergut region, surrounded by breathtaking mountains, peaceful farmland and the idyllic landscapes around St. Wolfgangsee. It was exactly the alpine escape we were looking for – a perfect opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and immerse ourselves in authentic Austrian farm living. The accommodation was exceptional and perfectly suited our needs. Our room was comfortable, beautifully prepared and equipped with every practical amenity needed for a relaxing stay. We particularly appreciated the coffee-making facilities, cereals provided for guests, and the charming breakfast lodge where we enjoyed fresh milk produced directly on the farm and delicious large fresh eggs. Everything was thoughtfully organised by our wonderful host, Mary, whose communication via WhatsApp was modern, efficient and extremely helpful. Every item was clearly labelled and placed in our dedicated harvest bag, making the entire experience feel personal and unique. We also appreciated the dedicated parking space and the genuinely friendly atmosphere throughout our stay. A special mention goes to my wife, who became the true hero of this holiday. Despite recovering from an ankle fracture she had suffered a few months earlier, she embraced every challenge with determination and never let it affect our enjoyment of this beautiful place.

  Disliked: The only aspect we found a little challenging was that our accommodation was located on the top floor and accessible via a traditional farm-style staircase. Since my wife was still recovering from an ankle fracture, the stairs required extra effort. However, this was certainly not the owners' fault, as we had not informed them of her condition beforehand. Guests with mobility concerns may wish to communicate this in advance when booking. Overall, Grafbauer Farm provided us with a memorable, authentic and peaceful alpine retreat that we would happily recommend to anyone looking to experience the beauty and tranquillity of the Salzkammergut region. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  Liked: Mary is great and attentive to details that make guests feel welcomed and their stay comfortable. There is a little plate near the apartment door with personalised welcom message of the guest. The apartment is compact but it packs in everything you need for a comfortable stay and preparing a meal from microwave, toaster to dish draining rack. Cooking oil, vinegar in addition to salt and pepper are also provided. I was surprised for the bottle of wine (though we didn't consume) and breakfast cereals. There is a common area in a separate building available for guests to eat and sit together as the apartment is only suitable for 2 persons. Umbrellas are available for guests to use which we did as the weather was wet when we were in Wolfgangsee. Communication with Mary was good and she was always prompt in reply.

  Disliked: The washing basin in the bathroom is small and water can easily spilled to the floor when you clean teeth or wash hands. I know there is not much that can be done given the size of the bathroom.
