Fabulous
Villa Vanilla is a beautiful gem in a sparkling Zadar and we would love to return again
Liked: I stayed with my partner Chris, we loved that our apartment was part of the villa, ground floor, and that the family live on the premises, so there was always somebody around if we needed anything extra or just for advice on the locality. Everything was spotless clean, including the pools. We self catered during the day and Tommy supermarket is only a few minutes walk up the road for fresh bread and milk, with Lidl being about a 20 minute walk away too. We walked everywhere because that's our thing, but taxis are inexpensive if you use Uber (local taxi firms rip you off a bit so don't trust them). The family owns tortoises and they are so cute wandering around the garden. Wi-Fi can be sketchy but I brought my own laptop to connect to the big TV screen using the HDMI cable that's already connected in the TV box so we were able to watch my Netflix (I paid for one month VPN with NordVPN cost €25 but it meant I could watch my Netflix, Prime Video etc at night). There's really so much to do, the Old Town is fabulous and there are loads of boat trips and full day or half day trips to the national parks or other nearby historical places on many of the websites such as Getyourguide etc, you will not be bored.
Disliked: There is nothing we didn't like, except some pesky mosquitoes that don't seem to bother the locals at all but took a liking to my blood (I'm Irish) and my partner's blood (he's English) so if you know you get bites at home, the first thing you should buy is mozzie repellent. Also the lovely owners can advise on that, ask for the Raid plug-in mosquito repellents for your apartment. But on saying that, we didn't let those little buggers affect our holiday!
We had a lovely stay and our host was lovely
Liked: Lovely property, very clean, we loved having the pool to cool down
Disliked: Lacking in kitchen equipment, utensils and a few more oven proof dishes would be useful.
Dishonest management & severe room defects. Do not stay here
Disliked: I am writing this review to warn future guests about our experience at Villa Vanilla in Zadar and the dishonest conduct of the management. We stayed for 3 nights, and the air conditioning unit was broken the entire time, constantly dripping water. The owner knew about the fault prior to our arrival—instructing us not to set the temperature below 23°C and promising it would be fixed as soon as we went out for the day. It was never repaired. We were left to manually empty a water pan around the clock to prevent the room from flooding, which completely ruined our stay. Attempts to get help during our stay went nowhere; staff on site could not assist, and messages sent via the booking platform were ignored. Upon checkout, the female owner verbally agreed to charge us for only 1 night and waive the cost of the other 2 nights as compensation. However, instead of honoring this, she abruptly processed our stay as a full cancellation on the booking platform, claiming we would only get a 10% refund. When we challenged this, she handed us €100 in cash to get us out the door because we were rushing to travel—an amount well short of the 2 free nights originally promised. To make matters worse, after logging a formal complaint, the owner lied to customer support, claiming she had offered us a full cash refund. This is completely false. Be extremely wary. The owner makes verbal promises she will not keep, uses platform cancellations to evade liability, and will fabricate stories when challenged. Save yourself the stress and book elsewhere.
Very bad experience especially for my kids
Liked: The place near from Old town of Zadar.
Disliked: I have travelled for many years and have never experienced anything like this. Entering and cleaning a guest’s accommodation before checkout, while the guest is still inside, and moving personal belongings without permission is completely unacceptable. Very disappointing experience, and definitely not the level of respect or professionalism I would expect from a property or cleaning service. 😡
Liked: Very warm and welcoming hosts who made everything easy for our family group arriving at different times.
Liked: We had a fabulous stay! The apartment was lovely, spotless, and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable visit. It was clean, and felt like a home away from home. The pool was also a great bonus during a very hot days! The host was incredibly welcoming and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable. The apartment is about a 45-minute walk from the Old Town, but we found Uber to be very affordable, costing around €7, so getting there was quick and easy. There are also shops and restaurants nearby, and it’s only about a 15-minute walk to Borik Marina and the beach. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
