  Liked: The host (Tom) is helpful. On the last day, i forgot my phone in the room. Tom rode a bicycle to open the room for me to take my phone.

  5th floor, no lift!

  Liked: Good location close to the centre. It was spacious including a lot of room in the bathroom. The balcony was nice. Sufficient crockery in the kitchen. Everything worked well enough.

  Disliked: It was on the 5th floor without a lift which was never mentioned. The hand over was in person which is unusual. We were delayed because of bad traffic. We kept the host updated about this and still got very grumpy responses, because it made him late for another handover. A safe key or remote access would be a lot easier. Everything in the flat was clearly done on the cheap and a long time ago: exposed cables, a floor that rattled everything in the kitchen if we just walked normally, a half broken door handle in the bathroom and a bathroom sink that drained very slowly. To close the fridge, you had to lift the door up to close properly. Paint was peeling in the bathroom and the bed was propped up on a book. There was hardly any washing up liquid and not even salt and pepper. You just got the feeling that it was run without love, squeezing as much money as possible with very little love.

  Liked: The apartment was spacious, and had great light. The view facing the mountains was great. The bed was very comfortable. The balcony was a nice way to escape the heat at night and have great conversations.

  Disliked: The pictures of the apartment were outdated, with significant changes made since. Parts of the space had been sectioned off with new walls. The couch — which also served as the second bed for our third guest — had been downgraded and, contrary to earlier reviews, was quite uncomfortable. The oven was not working, which we were only informed about upon arrival. No basic cooking essentials (e.g. salt, olive oil) were provided. The apartment was not properly cleaned. The key handover was a poor experience. The apartment was supposed to be available from 14:00, and we chose the 14:00–15:00 window for arrival. Due to a 25-minute bus delay, we informed the host that we'd arrive around 14:25. He first mentioned he wouldn’t be available between 14:30–15:30, which felt inconsistent with the advertised check-in window. Then he eventually arrived at 14:45, leaving us waiting outside in the June heat for 20 minutes. Unlike our previous stays, where the city tax is clearly communicated in advance, this additional charge was not highlighted and mildly caught us by surprise.

  i would come back again

  Liked: the privacy of the top floor was very nice. nice little balcony with ashtray for smokers. fun layout. pet friendly! ( but if you have a bigger dog, the steps are very very steep and they would not be able to come up or down with out help which could also impact your safety while trying to carry. best to bring your dog bed!) many windows which gives the place a great feel. kitchen was well equipped. bathroom was very spacious. ( we wanted to use the tub, but there was alot of mold surrounding it. there fore we did not get to enjoy that aspect of the rental. the owner was super nice, helpful, and he answered very quickly. easy to communicate with, he made our stay very comfortable. i would definitely recommend staying here, and i would come back. private stay and nice place.

  Good base to explore Freiburg from!

  Liked: Tom was a very helpful and communicative apartment manager. His communication over WhatsApp was great, full of insider hints/tips/knowledge and happy to answer any questions. The building was nice and quiet, with no noisy neighbours. It's located near to public transport as well as being a really easy walk into the town. It's on quite a quiet street, so it's nice to sit on the balcony and watch the sun go down. The bed was comfortable enough for a week's stay and it was nice to have different areas to sit in downstairs to make the most use of the space.

  Disliked: It would have been useful if the listing stated that the apartment isn't just on the top floor, but on the top floor of a 5 storey building, meaning 11 flights of stairs to get up to it! The curtains on one side of the property needed rehanging as they were falling down (as noted by Tom when he met us), and there were some areas which would have benefitted from a deeper clean. The kitchen was generally well equipped, but would have benefited from some basic condiments (salt/pepper/oil etc) to make use of the stove without having to buy ingredients as soon as you arrive, and some of the cabinets have seen better days. Similarly there is a coffee machine but you'll need to bring your own pods / sugar.
