Exceptional
One of the best experiences of my life to stay here. Never wanted to leave!
Liked: This is one of the most spectacular, special places I have ever stayed. The view from the back garden is simply incredible and the house is spotless and has everything you need. George is fantastic and helps you with anything you need.

Liked: Everything was to love about Casa di Maria! The place dreams are made of.So much so I’m not sure I want to share this amazing place! George our super host was a standout. He was a great communicator, greeted us where he gave directions to a car space & helped with luggage. He had stocked the fridge with some cold beers & fresh fruit which was so thoughtful. George had so many thoughtful provisions including a washing machine which is a real bonus when travelling away for 5 weeks. The standout was a location that would be hard to beat for the value for money. Located astoundingly right beside the unesco Venetian foretezza which as it happens is one of the garden walls! What a view from under an olive tree in the front garden where we spent many hours beneath reading from sunrise to sunset. The setting is so special & we really enjoyed sunset best view right from the garden on the wooden sunset chairs.The beautiful sea we swam in every day was a walk down a steepish path & a great taverna & restaurant were also down the path or location was right on the edge of the old town Rethymno so a walk was so close to access excellent restaurants & getting lost in the meandering streets.
Disliked: Nothing at all for us. Not an issue for us but anyone with mobility issues this will not be a suitable location due to the steps & steep access & George clearly communicates this.
A tranquil ocean view haven in the old town of Rethymo
Liked: Location - within old town and with amazing ocean views. The house itself was comfortable, well stocked with both a front verandah and a spacious back living space and garden,
Disliked: The elderly or infirm would struggle with the steep access path. However, if you are of reasonable fitness - it was fine.

A Perfect Stay Beside the Fortezza – Beautiful Views and a Great Location
Liked: The property is ideal for anyone interested in history, as it’s built right next to the ancient walls of the Venetian Fortezza. You really feel connected to the heritage of the area. One of the highlights is the incredible views. The front of the property faces the town and the Fortezza, with snow‑capped mountains in the distance, making it the perfect place to enjoy the sunrise from the table and chairs outside. At the back, the garden looks straight out to sea with more mountain views, and you get an unobstructed, high‑level view of the sunset. When we visited, the garden was full of wildflowers and alive with bees and butterflies, which made it even more special. There are two chairs and a table, plus four seats made from logs, giving you plenty of places to relax. Inside, the main bedroom is a good size with a very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need if you want to prepare your own meals. We had a hire car, and the host, George, kindly met us on arrival to guide us into the parking area, which was a big help. That said, you don’t necessarily need a car to enjoy your stay here. If you’re visiting simply to relax and enjoy Cretan hospitality, there are lots of bars, restaurants and attractions within walking distance. We spent a lot of time just sitting in the garden, looking out to sea and watching the world go by. If you want to explore a bit further, there are local buses and a very good hop‑on hop‑off bus that takes you around the town and up into the hills. The property is only a short walk from the bustling old town, with its shops, tavernas and historic streets. There’s also a well‑stocked supermarket nearby that stays open late, which was really convenient. Overall, Casa Di Maria is a wonderful place to stay if you want history, views, comfort and easy access to everything Rethymno has to offer. We loved our time here and would happily return.
Disliked: We had no complaints about anything
Liked: A lovely family apartment, beautifully perched along the side of a fortress — full of charm. Everything was spotless and very welcoming. The highlight, though, was the incredible view from the back garden, surrounded by spring flowers and a few friendly cats… just magical. A big thank you to Giorgos, who was extremely patient and kind, even though we kept him waiting after getting lost — on Easter day, no less! All in all, a wonderful experience. Thanks again!
