What are the Cliffs of Moher?
The Cliffs of Moher rise up to 214 metres above the Atlantic along 8 km of the Clare coast. They are Ireland’s most visited natural sight, with O’Brien’s Tower at the top, puffins in spring and, on clear days, views of the Aran Islands and Galway Bay.
Getting around from here
The visitor centre has a car park and a stop for the 350 bus. From Doolin a path runs along the cliff edge and, in season, boats sail beneath the cliffs and on to the Aran Islands. The Burren, with its limestone pavements, begins a few kilometres to the north.
When the hotels fill up
From June to August places to stay in Doolin, Liscannor and Lahinch fill up, especially at weekends, so book early. In winter many B&Bs close, but those that stay open are cheaper and the cliffs are almost empty first thing in the morning.
Which area to choose
Doolin, about 6 km north, is the most popular base, with traditional music pubs and boats to the islands. Liscannor and Lahinch, to the south, have a surf beach and a golf course. Ennis, about 40 minutes away, has the most hotels if you are driving.
