A good option for a quick overnight near the train station in La Spezia
Liked: Spacious rooms. Clean and air conditioned. Walking distance to the train station
Disliked: There was no onsite staff and accessing the place was not obvious. Also the place was under renovation, so quite a lot of clutter in some parts of the building.
Disliked: Very disappointing stay – excessive noise and poor housekeeping We stayed at The Railway 74 for three nights as a family with two children. Unfortunately, what started as a pleasant stay turned into a very disappointing experience. The first night was fine. However, on the second evening, when the neighbouring room became occupied, we discovered a serious problem with the sound insulation. At around 8:30 PM, the noise from the plumbing while someone was taking a shower was incredibly loud and clearly audible in our room. My wife and I even commented that we were lucky it had happened relatively early. On the third night, the same situation occurred at approximately 10:30 PM, when our entire family was already asleep. We were all woken up by the extremely loud plumbing noise, which continued for around 25–30 minutes, followed by another 5–10 minutes of hairdryer noise. Housekeeping was another disappointment. There was no standard "Do Not Disturb / Please Make Up Room" door sign available. On the first full day, I actually had to leave a handwritten Post-it note on the door asking for our room to be cleaned, and it was serviced. On the following day, without leaving another note, our room was not serviced at all. Nobody knocked or checked whether cleaning was required, as far as we were aware. As a result, we were left without toilet paper and fresh towels. Fortunately, we had brought baby wipes with us. To make matters worse, there was considerable noise from people entering the property and slamming doors until approximately 2:00 AM. Throughout the night, we could also hear a recurring beeping sound, apparently from some kind of alarm, roughly every ten minutes. I eventually had to use earplugs to get some rest. We fully understand that other guests have different schedules and cannot be expected to remain silent at all times.
Liked: Very Convenient location.close to train station and city centre.clean and spacious bedroom and bathroom.Had water outside our room and hostl was very friendly
Disliked: Very noisy because of the location however,we had ear plugs.Also,we could hear people taling loudly in the corridor in the morning but that's not host's fault.Overall,excellent stay for the value you get.
A gem of a place
Liked: This was chosen because of it's proximity to the train station. It is also close to restaurants, shops and a fairly easy walk to the harbour. The room was beautiful and had so many special touches. It was large, light, clean and airy and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. We looked forward to returning at the end of the day.
Disliked: I am used to blackout curtains and was a bit nervous about the amount of light in the tall windows waking me up but this wasn't an issue in October.
Location was so close to the train station. Parking was 20 euro per day. stairs were problem for me
Liked: I just made the booking in last minute. I requested ground floor since my son is not able to walk however it wasn't possible due to all rooms were booked in advance. It was my problem and fault but could expect to be communicated better.
Disliked: Climbing the stairs.
