Exceptional
Disliked: Unfortunately, our stay at the Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento was a major disappointment, especially considering the occasion and the amount of money we spent. We stayed at the hotel for an entire week around our wedding and booked a suite. Several of our family members, friends and wedding guests stayed there as well, meaning that our group occupied around six or seven of the hotel’s most expensive rooms. The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is wonderful, but unfortunately the level of service did not come close to what we would expect from a five-star hotel – particularly at this price point. What disappointed us most was the complete lack of attention or hospitality surrounding our wedding. Despite the hotel being aware that we were getting married during our stay and despite the significant number of premium rooms booked by our group, there was absolutely no gesture whatsoever. Not even a small note, a bottle of water or prosecco, flowers, or any other acknowledgement. As far as we remember, nobody from the hotel even congratulated us. Of course, we did not expect special treatment simply because we were getting married. However, hospitality – especially at a five-star hotel – is about making guests feel welcomed and valued. Considering that this was one of the most important weeks of our lives and that we brought several guests to the hotel and spent a considerable amount of money there, the complete lack of warmth or recognition was extremely disappointing. Overall, while the property itself is beautiful, the service and hospitality simply did not match the five-star standard or the very high prices. We had expected this hotel to become part of the wonderful memories surrounding our wedding week. Unfortunately, our experience was quite the opposite. For such a special occasion, we would not choose to stay here again.
