Exceptional
Liked: Very nice and comfortable plaxe. Staff very helpful. Food excellent and a lot. Desert camp also very comfortable, clean and really good service.
Liked: Wonderful stay near the dunes! The hotel has a lovely traditional style and the desert views are stunning. Perfect place to relax and enjoy Merzouga. thank you to maroune and his staff
It felt like a scam
Liked: The only clear advantage of the hotel is the close proximity to the dunes. Some staff members did seem to make an effort, and the older gentleman who appeared to be the owner came across as genuinely kind and decent.
Disliked: Considering the stay itself, I feel obliged to warn other guests: if you are thinking about booking this place, read this before spending your money — especially given the surprisingly positive reviews. After I left my initial negative rating, the manager contacted me several times via WhatsApp and also called me. This made me feel pressured and made me seriously question whether those very positive reviews give an accurate picture of this property. The room offered the most authentic desert experience of the stay: intense heat, no functioning air conditioning, and a lively ecosystem of flies and mosquitoes. Apparently, they had found their own oasis in the desert — my room. Trying to reduce their population was symbolic at best, since the door could not be closed properly. The lock looked as if it had been broken before and repaired with more optimism than skill. The bathroom followed the same standard. The shower had only cold water, although the temperature was almost irrelevant because the water pressure was extremely weak. The toilet flushed constantly, which may explain why the water was apparently busy elsewhere. The floor had visible stains, including what looked like marks from insects killed by previous guests — at best, reddish drops. The atmosphere around the stay also felt uncomfortable. During dinner, staff members sat down with me, asked personal questions about Europe, money, and opportunities to earn money there. They also talked about people they knew who had allegedly made millions in Europe with Moroccan export products. Maybe this was meant as friendly conversation. As a guest, it felt quite strange and unprofessional. Checkout made the experience worse. This was not handled by the older gentleman mentioned above, but by the manager. He added the stay, dinner and taxes and first arrived at around 730 MAD. Then unclear extra items appeared, and finally he “rounded” the amount up to 800 MAD, presenting it as a generous offer in excha
5 star for a desert hotel
Liked: Loved the location, no sand or dust despite the dunes being very close. Breakfast was very good. Bed very comfortable had a good nights sleep. Will we booking again next time I am in Merzouga.
Liked: Very helpful, friendly staff. Room was huge. Internal grounds and pool were well maintained despite a bit of on going fixing up work happening. Easy secure parking. Rustic, basic but very acceptable for the money.
Disliked: Plumbing was in need of repair. Both the sink and the shower leaked constantly, which is unforgivable when water is so precious.
Fantastic experience in Merzouga and lovely excursions with Marouane at Le Touareg hotel
Liked: The location was amazing at the feet of the big dunes. From that aspect, it’s really hard to find a better location. Rooms were really large and plenty of bedding for 4 people per room. We were just a couple so it was plenty spacious. They really tried to give it a unique design with lots of local art. I really appreciated that. Everything worked: AC and heating did (it gets cold in the nights so happy to report that). Showers worked very well with good strong hot water. I was very glad for my group since we took 3 rooms. About the manager Marouane, he really helped us organize a bunch of excursions in the desert: It’s not cheap but it takes a lot of work to do that. He was very competent and everything was fair. I think I can say he’s very trustworthy and he truly made my trip a success. A very pleasant surprise to meet him and his hotel!
Disliked: Honestly, knowing this is literally in the middle of the desert, it’s not fair to overly criticize them: This is definitely not a Four Seasons but it will definitely do for anyone reasonable.
