  Potentially great holiday ruined by bedbugs

  Liked: The apartment is big and has kitchen amenities. The living room is quite spacious. Bonus points from me for not being located on top floor with no lift which is often the case with the older flats in central Lisbon that also have a terrace. There was ample storage space in the bedrooms which is nice if you stay longer like us.

  Disliked: The terrace is quite large however one of the sides is covered with air conditioners blowing hot air which in 30 degrees C is not ideal but to be fair to hosts this was shown clearly on the pictures. The street the apartment is on has one of the steepest inclines I have ever seen and while it is historic it is difficult to reach by car so be aware in case you plan to arrive on foot as it might be challenging with a lot of heavy luggage. The biggest issue we had is that there were bedbugs in our bedroom. My wife was quite badly impacted by bites all over her body. I was also impacted but less so. It took us few days to find out what they are as initially we thought it was an allergic reaction to a medicine she was taking. The presence of bedbugs is probably not surprising given that the cleanliness of the flat was generally quite poor from the start and we even bought a mop to clean ourselves which we've never had to do before. Once we discovered what we are dealing with we contacted the property and they initially tried to shift the blame on us. They did however to their credit moved us to another property few hours later which was also not very clean however at least it did not have bedbugs. What it did have were small cockroaches in the kitchen. I also contacted booking.com who responded quickly however at the end they basically told me that I should take it with the property and there is not much they can do. Overall this experience kind of ruined our holiday and while we love Lisbon and have been there 4 times, we will think hard before we come back. I will also think before booking any more trips on booking.com who seem to not be able to vet well the properties they have on their platform.

  Absolute Cinema

  Liked: Amazing property, great location and very clean Staff available on WhatsApp and front and apartment door can be opened via an app on the phone aswell as code and key Would 1000% stay again

  Disliked: Nothing to dislike about the property, only downside is it’s on a steep hill if you aren’t mobile but so is everywhere else in Lisbon!
