Great base for exploring Lisbon

First time to Lisbon made fantastic by our hotel
Liked: The building was beautiful and the size of the rooms were incredible! Our view looked right out onto the square and travelling too and from the hotel was easy and right in the centre! Would recommend to anyone, for the price we got, the quality and service was amazing!

Disliked: Unfortunately, our experience with this hotel was extremely disappointing, and we would not recommend it. We had booked and paid for a specific room category, but were informed only on the evening before our flight to Portugal that our booked room was unavailable due to a water leak. Being notified at such short notice caused considerable stress and inconvenience. Upon arrival, we were offered a different room. However, this room was too small and did not correspond to the category we had originally booked and paid for. As an alternative, the reception staff then offered us a larger apartment that had reportedly been cancelled by other guests at short notice. When we inspected this apartment, we immediately noticed a very unpleasant, musty smell. A member of staff suggested that a device could be placed in the apartment to eliminate the odour. This was certainly not an acceptable solution for us. We subsequently discovered reviews on Booking.com in which other guests had also reported problems with mould, unpleasant smells and water leaks. These reports raised further concerns about the condition and maintenance of the property. Given these circumstances, we decided to leave and find alternative accommodation elsewhere. What makes the situation even more disappointing is the hotel’s response to our complaint. Not even a partial refund was offered, despite the fact that the room we had booked was unavailable and the alternatives offered were not acceptable to us. We believe that guests should receive the accommodation they have booked and paid for, or at the very least be offered a fair and reasonable solution when this is not possible. Unfortunately, neither the accommodation offered nor the subsequent handling of our complaint met our expectations. We would not recommend this hotel and strongly encourage prospective guests to consider our experience before making a reservation.
