  Good value

  Liked: Nice clean historical building.

  Disliked: The waiters in the Thai restaurant are inexperienced. The food is 6/10. In general need more professional waiters in the hotel. They are having group conversation amongst each other not attending tables well. Their level of English is poor.

  My favourite hotel in Portugal!!!

  Liked: Isabel at reception gave us a very friendly, warm welcome! We love, love, love this building!!! It’s quite magical! Our room was spacious and comfortable. There was a bidet in the bathroom. There were gowns in the room. I loved the pool, sauna and steam room. Breakfast was great and the serving staff were professional and friendly. The breakfast room is comfortable and spacious. It’s a relaxing environment. Joao was our waiter on our last morning. We enjoyed eating light meals in the bar: Khadak Rana and his cousin, Ramez Rana were fantastic waiters! They both take great pride in doing their jobs well and in pleasing the guests. I could move in to this hotel permanently, I loved it so much!!!

  Liked: Staff was really very kind and helpfull

  Disliked: The bathroom included a bath; however there was no plug. We asked at reception but they informed us that none of the rooms offered the possibility to take a bath; no plugs available … very, very strange in such a high end hotel …

  Liked: It was a beautiful hotel, with stunning architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens.

  Disliked: The power outlets in my room were not working. I requested an iron, but I was brought two faulty irons on separate occasions. Upon checking in, I noticed blood stains on the pillowcase, the bathroom bin was full, and the toilet flush was broken. The shampoo and shower gel dispensers were secured with metal fixtures to prevent guests from stealing them. However, the fixtures were poorly designed and made it impossible to use the pumps properly. The young female staff members in the breakfast area seemed very dissatisfied with their jobs and showed little willingness to assist guests. The breakfast was also far below the standard expected of a five-star hotel. Although the hotel itself was beautiful, with stunning architecture and lovely gardens, the overall experience was disappointing and did not meet the standards expected of a five-star establishment. The room was full of ants!!!!!

Good to know

All children under 12 can only access the Spa pool when accompanied by an adult.

Guests should specify their preference for bedding for any type of room prior to arrival. This includes requests for extra beds and the number of adults and children under 12 years old. This information should be noted in the Special Requests Box during booking and is subject to confirmation by the hotel.

For bookings of 9 or more rooms, the hotel will charge a nonrefundable prepayment of 50% of the entire reservation on the guest's credit card.

When booking half board, note that drinks are not included.
