Very good
Really good golf resort with plenty of facilities for non golfers
Liked: We had a one bedroom villa which was lovely - really great outlook to the golf course and plenty of room to spread out. The hotel has a great restaurant and nice outdoor seating area/bar. The golf course is great and overall the vibe of the resort is great. Would definitely go back again. Onsite parking is a bonus. Lovely pool area and they also have a spa etc for the non golfers. Well stocked pro shop and great practice facilities.
Nice stay but will not be returning
Liked: The hotel was clean and tidy, the staff were very helpful and we enjoyed trying to speak Spanish with them.
Disliked: Our room was supposed to be a Junior Suite as shown on the booking.com website. It was nothing like it and was very dark, the balcony overlooked a building site and had no table or chairs to sit on, not that you could because it was not big enough. The pools did not open until 11am, you had to put a €20 deposit down in pool towels and then another €2 each if you changed them after use. The buffet was good but very repetitive. Drinks were very competitive in price and the bar staff were attentive and helpful. Water in the room was charged as were extra coffee pods for the machine €1.50 each.
Relaxed and comfortable, great value for money!
Liked: The hotel has a great terrace that overlooks the golfcourse. The pool was nice and spacious (although cold). Room was spacious. Food in the restaurant was above expectations and enough on the menu for 2 days of lunch and dinner. But I would have liked to have more/better wines on the menu... The whole atmosphere of the hotel is relaxed and comfortable. Great value for money!
Disliked: The room was a bit outdated and smelled musty. Initially the airco could not be switched on but after complain that activated it. It made it better. The breakfast was always very noisy because of noisy kids, not a joy! I missed fine wines on the menu in the restaurants.
Very dissapointing due to daily 6am noise and lack of response from staff
Disliked: We had an extremely disappointing stay at Montecastillo Hotel. We have stayed here many times for the track but next time will stay elsewhere. From the very start, our experience was poor. We were moved rooms three times during our stay. Despite booking the junior suite, there were none available. We then had to pay extra for a two bedroom villa which was completely unacceptable—it smelt strongly of mould and damp, making it uncomfortable and clearly unsuitable for guests. The biggest issue, however, was the constant early morning disturbance. Every single morning of our 9-night stay, we were woken up at 6am by staff cleaning golf carts with a high-pressure hose less than 50 metres from our room. The noise was incredibly loud—so much so that it even with the windows closed it sounded like a lawn mower was inside the room. We raised this issue multiple times, calling reception during the disturbance and also speaking to staff in person on four separate occasions. Despite this, nothing was done to address the problem. After four nights of ongoing disruption, we emailed the hotel director about the issue with a video asking for the issue to be resolved. Dissapointingly, he didn’t even bother to reply. The constant early morning disturbance and complete absence of response from management made the stay feel more like a boot camp than a holiday. Such a shame as we would have returned many times.
First but not last time there
Liked: Very good breakfast, good lunch menu, close to Jerez Circuit.
We were comfortable to forfeit the cost of two nights that we had already paid for and leave after the first night
Liked: Grounds were impressive and well kept, comfortable bed. Clean room
Disliked: First room smelled very strongly of drains / raw sewage, we requested to, and were moved to the adjacent room where we discovered the smell was evident again. Emanating from the pool pump and drains outside, directly beneath the window, the odour was so strong it was impossible to air the room or have the windows / doors open. The food in the buffet was appalling - stone cold, or had dried out or formed a crust having been left out so long (we arrived at 8pm). A microwave is provided which indicates the staff are aware the food is cold. Incredibly, even the raw carrots were terrible! We live in rural Spain and travel across the country enjoying the local food wherever we go….This is the worst food we have experienced in Spain. Similarly we stay in many hotels, often with the same brand; this hotel felt run down and tired. No way is this a 5 star hotel!
