  Great stay, excellent location, very responsive staff

  Liked: The hotel is in an amazing location, and everything is within easy reach. The ocean is just around the corner, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The staff were very helpful. Whenever we had an issue, they sorted it out and explained everything clearly. The restaurant was superb, and we had dinner there often. Tip: it's best to book a table in advance. Breakfast was generous, with a wide selection.

  Disliked: Unfortunately, there were no lactose-free options at breakfast. It would be great to see some added.

  Perfectly located and extremely relaxing, this is easily one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in

  Liked: The hotel is located in the best possible area, with the beach and Old Town being just a 5-10 minute walk away. There’s even a sneaky lift that takes you right down to street level (that road leads straight to the beach) and completely cuts out the uphill walk back to the hotel. The rooms are spacious, modern, kept perfectly clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable and as hospitable as possible. The spa and swimming pool was also thoroughly relaxing, particularly the high pressured water fountain and scented sauna. We used the restaurant twice during our stay and can honestly say that the food was as good as anything we ate in the Old Town, which is quite the statement when the food in San Sebastián is possibly the best in the world. Also, considering we stayed for 7 days, I think £1,500 was an incredibly reasonable price for such a luxury hotel. If I was to return to the city, Catalonia Donosti is the only place I’d consider staying.

  Disliked: Only one minor issue: from the moment we arrived, we saw signs saying that the rooftop bar and swimming pool was not open due to the weather. We went up to the roof to double check ourselves, but could see that the area had been chained off. Those signs remained there for the duration of our stay, which gave us the impression that the rooftop was completely closed the entire time. However, after speaking to fellow guests at the airport on our way home, we found out that the rooftop was in fact open the entire time. So we feel we slightly missed out there.

  Nice modern hotel. Ten minutes walk from the old town

  Liked: Good buffet breakfast and a nice sized room. Everything is newly appointed. Convenient route/lift down into the streets below.

  Disliked: Outdoor pool/bar area was closed off, presumably due to the season. Parking is charged at 25 euros per night.

Good to know

Only 1 dog or cat under 20 kg per room is allowed (on request). There is an additional fee of EUR 25 per animal per night, plus a deposit of EUR 200. Pets are not allowed in the common areas of the hotel, including the bar-restaurant.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Minors under 16 years of age are not allowed access to the spa. It is necessary to make a reservation in advance.

Reservations of more than 4 rooms or more than 8 nights are subject to special conditions and supplements.
