  Overall the standard of maintenance and cleanliness did not match what we expected for the price

  Liked: The house has a great layout, is very spacious and family-friendly, and has amazing views

  Disliked: Unfortunately, there were a number of issues that significantly affected our stay. On arrival, the narrow entrance gates were surrounded by overgrown shrubbery. Both gates need to be held open by two people to manoeuvre a car through without risking scratches. The steps leading to the entrance are also quite steep and could be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. After a long road trip, one of the first things we needed to do was laundry, only to discover that the dryer was out of order. This was particularly disappointing as previous reviews appear to have mentioned the dryer as an issue as well. The cleanliness was another significant concern. The bedding was stained and worn, the windows were dirty on the inside, and there were sticky surfaces and fingerprints on the island counter, fridge and dishwasher. We also found dust under the sofa and considerable dirt build-up on the ventilation grilles in the laundry room, kitchen and bathrooms. Given the price of the property, we expected a much higher standard of cleanliness. Before our arrival, I had contacted the owner specifically about several issues raised in an earlier review and was assured that these would be checked before our stay. Unfortunately, we found that some of those issues had not been addressed. There was chipped crockery, only three mismatched wine glasses for four guests, scratchy and worn bed linen, and no additional pillowcases for the extra pillows. One final point that prospective guests should be aware of is the location. Although the property is described in relation to Portree, it is not in Portree town. It is in Uig, approximately a 20-minute drive away. This is worth knowing when choosing the property, particularly if you are expecting to be based in Portree itself. Overall, this is a beautiful property with enormous potential, but the standard of maintenance, cleanliness and attention to detail did not match what we expected for the price.

  Fantastic views but disappointing property

  Liked: View from upper floor is fantastic! Location is not bad - walkable to grocery and a bar/restaurant (but it's quite small and we were unable to get a table 4 wks. in advance)

  Disliked: Very rustic and tired decor. Disappointed basic provisions not on hand (paper towels, tea, sugar) as properties of comparable pricing typically include. Unwelcoming exterior - trash area needs attending. Very steep steps to entry were a challenge to navigate. Surprised dryer was out of order - would have appreciated knowing in advance.

  Nice place to stay overall!

  Liked: Beautiful view of the town and water, walking distance to the grocery store and a local pub. A peaceful and quiet place to stay.

  Disliked: The main bed mattress was uncomfortable for two people with no support, the dryer is out of order.
