Evening staff completely ruined the experience

Liked: The rooms are lovely and clean, the location superb, breakfast was gorgeous. The evening staff members completely let it down due to inexperience, they need more staff and better staff.

Disliked: The young girl on check in is inexperienced and miserable. When we checked in they asked us if we want a table, which we said yes and agreed a time of 8pm. We were sat in the bar for an hour before, their was a delay sitting us down, we then had to wait 25 mins for someone to take our order, to be told 2 of things we wanted were sold out, then she asked me if I wanted a bowl of chips, it was then 1:20 minutes we had been sat down and still hadn’t received our food, and we complained asking how long and the young man told us it’s Saturday and they squeezed us in and we should be grateful when they asked us!! It totally ruined the experience. We had breakfast the next morning and hutch was a totally different experience they were lovely. However the manager was on she did not once apologise or address it at check out which was poor! We of course ended up going back to the room and or having to order a take away as the food was not coming. Also we stayed in the farm house and someone was blaring music but you have no phone to contact reception. Such a shame as this hotel could be great!!!

Wonderful location, comfortable rooms, lovely food but some serious delays

Liked: Fabulous location near Catbells. Friendly service, attentive but a little haphazard. The full English breakfast was very good, but the coffee was weak and I would have preferred a healthier option of cereals, fruits and yoghurt. I was given butter but nothing to put it on (toast, perhaps?)

Disliked: I booked a table for 8 pm but my first course didn’t arrive till 9.10. When it did come, the partridge was exquisite, however. Quite delicious. The main course sea bass was also good but I would have preferred saffron rice to overcooked orzo and the bowl was awkward to eat from. I was given a free glass of wine as compensation for the delays but it felt like too little, too late, by then. A shame that these timing issues spoiled the chef’s rather wonderful efforts, for me.
