Quiet Road / close to centre

Liked: Easy communication from owners, accommodation wasn't far from the museum and high street. Two toilets which were beneficial for two families staying. Tea and coffee was available on arrival. Quiet road, no noise of cars. The upstairs bathroom was nice.

Disliked: Unfortunately no space for cars, had to pay premium parking as owners do not have parking spaces or city permits. Heating in two bedrooms was non existent and this happened to be the children's rooms. There was one small electric heater, which was rather smelly and wouldn't work within the tight space in the loft. Carpets were stained in the downstairs bedroom and the stairs were a little tricky. We almost had a few falls on the bathroom step as it came out at the landing. No tea towels, which is annoying because we stuck the dishwasher on and the kitchen floor became a soap alley. I did report to the owners - they said they would try and get someone to drop off tea towels but we didn't get those. In terms of cleaning - I would say the basics are achieved, beds clean and made but there are a lot of marks on the walls and carpets. I would be mindful of the dark blue carpet on stairs, tricky steps can be hard to see in the evenings.

Liked: Easy walking distance of city centre Hosts responded quickly to queries and problems

Disliked: There are many areas which are omitted from the description with regards to this property: There is no Parking or Permit - you have to find your own parking which is expensive There is only 1 Bathroom and it takes the Immersion 1 hour to heat for a shower (ridiculous for 8 guests). Also the sink blocks easily, there is a plunger supplied to rectify this problem! The second toilet is outside and is accessed over a dangerous slimy (in the rain) decking. The toilet door does not shut and the seat is not fixed on properly. The fourth 'bedroom' is in the loft. You can only stand up in very center, so you have to crawl around on your hands and knees. There is no blind for the velux window. The lounge is actually taller than it is wide and you cannot seat 8 guests at the same time (not "spacious").. There are a number of issues that need repairing, e.g. the handle on the bathroom door is hanging on with one screw, the radiator in bedroom Nidd is loose, the mattress in that bedroom is very worn While the use of a cot and highchair is great, a stair gate would be useful and the hall is not wide enough to get down with a buggy

Great location. Not so perfect everything else

Liked: Location was really good. 10/10 Three main bedrooms were nicely presented. Attic room cosy but ideal for kids. Kitchen facilities were good. Everything we needed. Although mostly ate out.

Disliked: Sent the wrong code on arrival so couldn't get in, ring doorbell wasn't answered and neither was the phone initially. Took around 15 minutes to be given the right code. Asked about the parking permit, only to be told parking wasn't included even though it's listed as included. Then had a crazy search to find over night parking for a week stay. Most near by were over £100 opted for a space just over a mile away for £44. Reached out to ask if they'd cover it and been repeatedly ignored by them and booking.com A simple application to York Council and there would be a permit. We looked it up. Listed as 2 bathrooms, it's not it's 1 bathroom, and a seperate toilet in the garden shed, admittedly well decorated. Wood burning stove says to use a glove to open, there was no glove. Also no ash pan to empty out the fire. We were a group of 4 but had we been the full 8 that the property accommodates then you wouldn't all be able to sit in the lounge at once 6 maximum. Likewise dining table only has 7 seats. No instructions for the heaters. Bedrooms remained cold all week. Bathroom door handle still broken. Broken glass lamps in the cupboard with the 3 games available. Outdoor bins also needed emptying as over flowing. Shelves not actually fixed in the cupboard so had to carefully balance clothes.

Disappointing as property was not as described in the booking info as it was difficult to have 5 adults with only the us

Liked: Close proximity to the city centre inside castle walls which was great.

Disliked: Booking information was misleading as there was no second bathroom as stated in the booking info just an outside toilet. There was no actual parking provided had to go to car park a short distance away from property. Needed minor repairs such as toilet door handle broken & other doors did not close properly. Hand held shower has a leak which sprays water to the side. The house smelt a little like dogs. The property just needs to keep up on their maintenance schedule.
