Very good
Plenty to like, but the shower and key situation certainly kept things interesting
Liked: The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with plenty of space to settle in. Being on the ground floor was convenient, and we appreciated having tea and coffee-making facilities with milk provided. It was a lovely base for exploring York, and despite the rather unsettled weather during our visit, we had an enjoyable stay.
Disliked: There were a few things that unfortunately let the lodge down during our stay. Firstly, the shower was a real disappointment. The water pressure was practically non-existent, and it took around 10 minutes for the water to get warm. Possibly one of the least impressive showers we've encountered, and that's including some fairly stiff competition! It was a shame, as a decent shower really shouldn't be too much to ask. We also had quite a few issues with the keys. On arrival, we struggled to retrieve our room key from the key safe, despite entering the correct code that had been sent to us the day before. We spent around 5–10 minutes trying to get it open, eventually needing assistance from the cleaner, who also took a few minutes to work it out. Not quite the smoothest start to our stay! Once we had the keys, we found them quite awkward to use, as they were difficult to get into the locks. The keyring contained two keys, although we only ever needed one for our room, so it wasn't particularly clear what the second was for. More concerning was that the key we used for our room also appeared to work in the main entrance door. This left us wondering whether the same key system was being used across all rooms, and whether other guests might potentially have access to one another's rooms. We can't say for certain how the locking system works, but it did leave us feeling uneasy. This was made more concerning by the notices displayed on the walls stating that the lodge accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen belongings unless they have been handed in for safekeeping. Given the uncertainty around room security, this wasn't particularly reassuring. Overall, these issues took away from what was otherwise a pleasant stay. We'd recommend reviewing the shower facilities, key access arrangements and room security, as these are all things that could make a considerable difference to the guest experience.
Liked: Lovely Clean room, with easy walk to York city centre, friendly owner, competitive price
Disliked: Very convenient to the York minster
Lovely stay in York
Liked: Great location, only a 10 minute walk into the city. I never met any of the staff but spoke on the phone and email communication was very clear and friendly. Room was clean, with tea/coffee facilities and towels provided. The property was warm and cosy, perfect for what I needed it for.
Disliked: There is ample parking, but the parking permit process was a little unclear and involves transferring additional funds (£5 per day) to purchase a digital parking permit. Whilst the staff were friendly and helpful, it would be better if this information was in the welcome email to make it a little clearer. L
Great location and clean and clean
Liked: Always really clean and organized
Disliked: Nothing great location
Liked: Location was good.
Good
Liked: Short walk into town, fan and heating, comfortable bed with a tv including netflix and wardrobe, easy check in, hot water and spacious shower
Disliked: Lock box wasnt scrambled with code already input so anyone could have gotten our key before us but luckily it was in there, Pizza box was left in room upon entry, towels had yellowing, noisy could hear other guests talk and plug things into walls, tv was strangely high upon the wall and hard to see
