Lovely hotel, very quirky. Location good too, ideal for the reason for my visit to York

Liked: Location was excellent, not far from the centre of York. The room was lovely, very quirky. Breakfast was a little overpriced for the quantity dished up. When I have had breakfast in hotels in the past, beverages are usually included in the price, not extra as in this case. Don't agree with the service/gratuity charges on top of an already expensive breakfast.

Disliked: Only gripe is having to pay for parking, it should be free. If you're going to charge, at least charge half the cost - £55 for two nights is a bit extortionate.

Outstanding accommodation in a superb location

Liked: Absolutely outstanding. This was a once in a life time visit to York for us from Perth, Australia. It’s never just about the things you see or the places you visit - accommodation can make or break a trip. This place hit the mark in every aspect. We contacted the guesthouse in advance and asked for a quiet room if at all possible and even better, one with a view. We were given the most fabulous room and were thrilled. The bed was sensationally confortable and the bathroom generously sized. Everything was clean and the room was serviced daily. We appreciated the attention to detail - the decorative white York roses for example on the walls of the room. We loved the record player and the ability to swap out records whenever we wanted. Then there’s the pantry - oh my goodness - brilliant! The location suited us perfectly - close enough for an easy walk into York but not so close as to be right in the thick of things. We strolled in to see the Minster and walked the city walls etc. One night (a Thursday from memory) we got to enjoy nearly two hours of bell ringing from the Minster - what a treat! I wish we could have taken that sound home with us. And if we had had enough of that glorious sound (which we never did), closing the window gave us absolute silence for a great night’s sleep. A huge thank you for the most perfect stay. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone wanting to visit York and/or surrounding areas.

Poor for £800 one night stay!

Liked: Poor staff communication Blamed booking.com for inability of hotel to communicate limited car parking (after a 6 hour drive through a storm, we were laugh at on arrival by receptionist as we were soaking wet)

Disliked: Spending £399 on room £420 on supper, not getting decent service… Been seated on a wet windy night by front door, in a slmost empty restaurant and having to ask to be moved as every wet customer shook there coats on us. The bathroom was poor - toilet did not flush well, bath plug did not work, sink slow draining.

Liked: Fun, stylish hotel - very interesting and comfortable. Nice bathroom. Loved the record players in the rooms! Lovely touch. Also had pantries with free fruit and snacks. Great location too!

Disliked: They added on a service charge to my bar orders (a few glasses of wine) which was disappointing. Tipping is an American thing and is supposed to be discretionary. There was no one on reception late morning when people were trying to check out. Otherwise staff were very helpful and friendly.
