Exceptional
Lovely property with great attention to detail and close to all the action
Liked: Great property with a quirky history with a real affection to the old shop. Great interior design touches as well. Close to town. Very comfy bed.
Disliked: Right on the street so can be a bit noisy with traffic and passers by at kicking out time. Garage can be hard to find. FYI turn left before black bear barbers.
Short break in York
Liked: Location, decor, comfy bed, patio, parking
Disliked: Bit noisy, open plan toilet
Liked: Absolutely perfect location, so many wonderful bars & restaurants within a few steps of the property, and a very short walk into the centre of York. Super cozy & comfortable, and I loved the decorating. Had a wonderful time and would happily stay again
Disliked: One tiny issue, the lights for the back garden seating area weren't very bright (maybe need replacing) but such a minor problem it hardly even counts!
Cosy spot
Liked: Beautiful renovation of a former bookstore, we enjoyed our stay there, and in York. And we appreciated the garage to which Waze directed us precisely. Navigation through narrow streets in the centre with people, bikes, prams, is a bit tricky but that’s the price you pay for staying in a centre of a lovely historical place. The cafes, restaurants and bistros at the doorstep are worth it! And we very much appreciated the little welcome present!
Disliked: The open plan bathroom which includes the only toilet in the house is really open (no doors, no partition) and doesn’t give privacy, a clear design flaw in an otherwise lovely place. It looks good but doesn’t fit the purpose. Hence the point down in my rating.
Great Stay in York
Liked: Location outstanding for a plethora of restaurants and cafes. Loved the quirky decor. Lovely outside areas. Comfortable bed and well equipped kitchen. Will book again.
Disliked: Bedroom and bathroom combined so toilet although ‘hidden’ by the side of the shower was in effect in the same room as there were no doors. The snug chairs looked lovely but were impractical for older couples.
Great location, but comfort not quite up to the looks
Liked: Good location, within walking distance of all major attractions in York. On a street that's busy at night, but had expected this. Beautifully decorated. Lovely big, well-appointed bathroom with good size walk in shower and a free-standing bath. Plenty of towels. Nice fitted kitchen. Netflix on one of the TVs. Use of outdoor space.
Disliked: Looked great, but lacked a little in comfort. Memory foam mattress was way too soft for my liking, so didn't sleep very well at all. Two bean bag chairs in the snug had looked as though they would be comfortable for watching movies and listening to music, but in reality seemed to be lacking in beans, so didn't provide any back or head support to lounge back so that you ended up sitting 'on' them, rather than 'in' them. In reality I found the snug uncomfortable so didn't use it as I'd expected instead using the small sofa and TV in the front room - with my feet up on the armchair as there was no footstool. Although there was outdoor space it wasn't private. The kitchen was lovely, but weirdly for a place for no more than two people to stay it only had 2 huge saucepans and a big frying pan which would have been great to cater for a whole family, but were just awkward for one person.
