An ideal location for exploring York and a house with a long history

Liked: Location was excellent, property was unique, creaking floorboards and plumbing added to its charm.

Disliked: Kitchen floor seemed dirty, key box on river side was broken.

Not worth the money at all compared to all our other stays

    Liked: Theme

Disliked: Rubbish left outside in garden, rats around it. Steps that trip you over with no hazard warnings until you have tripped and look back. Cellar door that doesn’t close propped and is dangerous if you fall down, needs a bolt. Tv is hanging on by a thread and unable to view unless you re arrange the front room as it is clearly the owners bedroom when they stay. Staircases both slippy as hell when wet, needs grip tape and a hand rail out front. Expected to load a dishwasher which can be put on by the people paid to clean. Floor swept under the bed so all the dirt is underneath the bed. Rug in bedroom slides and is a trip hazard. Bathroom sink is inaccessible for rinsing mouth as you hit you head on a shelf Plenty more to say but simply won’t return. Otherwise they have a lovely cold fan

Beyond disappointed, expensive mistake to make,it could of been wonderful, but really wasn't

Liked: The location of this property is great, but that's where the praise stops I'm afraid. It is a lovely historic building with lots of history.

Disliked: This property has so much that let's it down. ** ive tried to write this review several times but it will not let me upload my photos of evidence of all that is wrong with this place** There is a broken floor tile on the kitchen floor a step that is a trip hazard, which needs a different colour strip on,so you can see it. The bathroom is dated,a shower curtain that is dirty, stained and old. The sink is tiny that has a shelf too close to it,making it so difficult to clean your teeth. You pay extra for towels and linen and are given 2 bath sheets and one hand towel. On leaving yesterday,we always strip our bed and were horified to find a stained mattress cover(this is unacceptable 🤢) Worst of all, this place has a walled garden, which i envisaged sitting at the table in the early evening with the gate open looking at the river. Not an option, the garden is a wreck overhung with trees, full of fallen leaves, rotting fruit, slippery surfaces as needs a power wash. Mould everywhere, cobwebs,it's disgusting. This property is not cheap to stay in,I really wish I'd stayed somewhere else, which is a shame as this place could be beautiful. **I cannot upload my photos for some reason to this review, detailing all i have written above, which is really disappointing **

Fantastic property, with everything you could need

Liked: Virtually everything. The property was was everything we hoped it would be. The facilities were excellent. The location was so close to the main centre. Looking out the windows at the river was special. The bed was large enough and comfortable. Absolutely everything you could require for a 4 night stay. Only 2 things I would criticise. 1. On our first morning, I stepped in the bath and switched on the rain shower. The water was going in every direction, rather than straight down. I got the green sponge from the kitchen and spent 1-2 minutes cleaning the shower head. After that the shower was just about as good as the shower we have at home. A pleasure to use after that. 2. The courtyard was a disgrace. The table and 2 chairs were covered in birds poo and spiders webs. They had never been cleaned in months. The courtyard had never been swept for months. Dead rotten apples and masses of shrivelled up dead leaves. 30 minutes of cleaning would leave an amazing little area. We did sit in the courtyard on 2 evenings and it was lovely having such a private little place to relax after busy days. Would we return, and would we recommend the property? That’s easy, a 100% YES. We are both looking forward to returning to York and The Davey Tower. John Reid

    Disliked: refer to the above.

    Tired Tower

Liked: location is excellent 5 mins to town centre views onto river and park are lovely history of property provided massive comfy bed good communication in booking quick to respond to issues raised good kitchen equipment

Disliked: Firstly i was unprepared for the additional £25 cost for sheets. who charges extra for sheets its disgusting. my hands were tied on dates and fact i needed dog friendly otherwise i would have cancelled. Information on property rules state dogs not allowed in bedroom area at all however if you use front door it leads directly into bedroom and to reach lounge from back door you need to walk through bedroom so its just not possible. we spent our first day trying to keep the. back door closed. the lock didnt work from inside or out so door kept flying open in wind. we reported but it wasnt resolved until the following day due to availability of locksmith meaning the property was unsecure and open to elements and intruders whilst we slept. one it was repaired no further issues however the front door lock didnt seem very secure either. this is a tired and jaded looking property in some areas. the bathroom floor tiles are cracked the width of the room, the sink is located in a way that its difficult to clean teeth or wash face. the courtyard garden could be lovely but totally overgrown with apple tree branch hitting you in face as you exit via rear stairs. there are tripping hazards due to various levels in flooring from kitchen and bathroom to other areas. the stairs into both entrances are steep with narrow steps so could be tricky for less abled. i understand the historic factors prevent some repairs or modernisation but it feels neglected.
