Unsatisfactory even just for a place to sleep for the night if passing
Liked: Welcome was friendly
Disliked: Window was open upon entering room. Freezing all night as we didn't check in until late evening. Foul smell coming from bathroom. Multiple, different lengths hairs found in the bed. Bed frame uncomfortable and matress made hips and back ache from springs. Mould on ceiling. Carpets dirty.

Disliked: My only observation would be perhaps the very bright external lights could be switched off when the pub is closed. The lights shine into the room, making it feel like it is dawn. Or blackout curtains to make the room darker when sleeping at night.
Disliked: Extremely disappointing experience – our reservation was cancelled without notification We booked two rooms at The Saddle Inn in Fulford, York, on 3 May 2026 through Booking.com and received a confirmation email for the evening of Saturday, 10 October 2026. We were travelling down from Edinburgh to attend a very special occasion: my mother-laws 80th birthday celebrations. After driving approximately 200 miles and battling through heavy traffic due to the horse racing at Knavesmire, we arrived at the Inn at around 2 pm, expecting our accommodation to be available for our stay. Instead, we were told by the barman that all the rooms were occupied and that our reservation had apparently been cancelled. He said we should have received an email informing us of this, but we had received no such notification. To arrive after such a long journey, for such an important family occasion, and discover that we had nowhere to stay was extremely upsetting and completely unacceptable. We can only speculate as to why this happened, but given the major horse racing event taking place in York that weekend, it was difficult not to wonder whether our rooms had been let to other guests at a higher rate. Thankfully, my wife approached the neighbouring Pavilion, where the receptionist could see how distressed she was. Fortunately, they had an apartment available, although the housekeeping team needed to prepare it for us. We are very grateful to them for helping us out of an incredibly stressful situation. The Pavilion ultimately saved the day, but The Saddle Inn left us in an entirely avoidable predicament. We had booked months in advance and received written confirmation of our reservation. We deserved to be informed in advance if our booking could not be honoured, rather than discovering the situation on arrival. This was a very poor experience, particularly given the significance of the occasion and the distance we had travelled.
