Huge disappointment
Liked: Whilst the charm of staying overnight on the Mont and having a view of the bay from our room were wonderful, the rest of our stay was a disaster. The welcome at reception was brusque and unfriendly and walking to our room was like walking through a building site.... the room itself was basic and not clean with coffee down one of the walls..... the restaurant is to be avoided - cold soup, a worm in the salad and the 'mythical' omelettes are not worth the trouble - all of this at vast expense...... breakfast was chaos - guests had to wait for a table, the buffet was mediocre and not stocked so late arrivals had the leftovers..... our prevailing sentiment is that this business is simply a cash machine for investors - the client is not at the centre of the experience. (I would add that we are restaurant professionals.)
Liked: Right on the island. But that’s not necessarily a plus since nice photos are taken on the bridge which is 350m from the island. So it’s a 5-10 minute walk anytime you want to “see” MSM. It’s easier to get that Instagram shot if you stay on mainland. The condition of the hotel is dated and poor. I know their disclaimer “it’s a historic hotel”, but that’s not a license NOT to change room carpet which looks to be about 20 years old and has not been vacuumed for a while. The room is dark (ok I know it’s historic, but how about a brighter LED bulb?) How about not using dark grey wallpaper? I Cannot see things on the floor under dim light as the old carpet is dark grey as well. Heaters in the room & bathroom not operational. And no AC. Our “view room” has a 2 ft wide window looking at the parking and the bridge - a far cry from “bay view” as advertised. Be careful when you book a “bay view” room. Reception is not at the hotel & is 1 block away where you have to go up a flight of stairs to get your key, then walk back down and up the street back to the hotel. Hotel is above the restaurant, but entry to hotel not marked. When you ask the restaurant ppl, they send you back to the reception down the street instead of telling you to enter thru a small unmarked door next to restaurant. The only nice thing is the breakfast. Nice selections and good service. Wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel experience but when you charge people 5 star hotel price there’ some basic expectations.

Liked: They use misleading advertising, the photos they show of the place to offer their rent, are not the place where I stayed. The place had a strong and nauseating smell and the window could not be opened, because the door is left open all night, my window overlooked a dirty and dark place, close to the cemetery. One of the worst places I have ever been in my life!
Liked: Love the location but hotel is looking tired
Liked: This hotel is located at the entrance so it’s very convenient. There are a significant amount of stairs so be prepared for that. The rooms are cute, beds are somewhat comfortable and the tv worked! Only real downfall was the restroom-it smelled terrible and I’m sure it was due to the very old plumbing but the smell was pretty awful. I hope it was just my room. Mont St Michel is amazing though and I had a wonderful time.
