Where to stay in Mont-Saint-Michel: the best areas
The Mount
On the Grande Rue there are a few traditional hotels inside the walls. Staying there lets you see the village empty at dusk, but there are steps and slopes to haul luggage up and the car stays on the mainland.
La Caserne
On the mainland, by the car park and the shuttle stop, there is a cluster of mid-sized hotels, restaurants and shops. It is the most convenient base: the Mount is a few minutes by shuttle or a walk along the footbridge.
Pontorson and Beauvoir
Pontorson, a few kilometres away, has simple hotels, guesthouses and a railway station. In Beauvoir and along the road to the Mount there are rural places to stay and chambres d’hôtes.
Avranches
This hilltop town across the bay offers more services and restaurants. There are hotels and places to stay with views over the bay, for those travelling by car.
