  Rude and Aggressive Reception Staff – More Like a Hostel Than a Hotel

  Liked: Location close to Berlin central station

  Disliked: Our stay at MEININGER Hotel Berlin was extremely disappointing, and the attitude of the reception staff was completely unacceptable. We were a group of seven guests staying across three rooms. Unfortunately, the poor customer service began from the moment we arrived. During check-in, while one receptionist was processing our passports, the other receptionist asked my friend to move away from his desk, claiming he needed to serve other customers. However, there was nobody waiting behind her. When she questioned him, he appeared embarrassed and simply laughed it off. The accommodation itself was extremely basic and felt much more like a hostel than a hotel. The pillows provided were ridiculously flat, offering practically no comfort. My friend requested an additional pillow for her room, which accommodated three people, and was given just one. When I later approached reception to request two additional pillows for my own room, the same receptionist who had checked us in responded by shouting at me, claiming my friend had already taken extra pillows. I explained that we had booked three separate rooms and that my friend's pillow was for her room, not mine. Instead of listening, he continued raising his voice and insisting that no pillows were available. This happened in the lobby, with other guests present and my daughter standing beside me. I found the situation extremely embarrassing and humiliating. My daughter eventually told him that she would be leaving a Google review about his behaviour. Surprisingly, after repeatedly insisting there were no additional pillows available, he suddenly managed to produce one, although even that pillow was in very poor condition. As a group of people of colour, the way we were treated also left me questioning whether unconscious racial bias may have played a part.

  Liked: Everything good ( location + price + staff + clean +tidy..... etc.) So I advise anyone want to come to visit Berlin with saving money.

  Liked: I really liked the barman im the evening, had a couple of beers with my friend and the man was really friendly, British but I don’t think he told me his name, excellent service and good humor

  Excellent, with areas for improvement

  Liked: Since I arrived by train and had only one day to explore Berlin, its location couldn't have been better. The breakfast was also spectacular.

  Disliked: The only issue that caused me to lose a bit of time was some incorrect information I received from the front desk regarding the location of the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour stop; they gave me a vague answer, suggesting it was in the square across the way, when I later discovered it was actually right in front of the hotel. Another issue—which is beyond your control—occurred in my hostel-style apartment, where one of the guests walked around with a towel tied around his waist. This was quite uncomfortable, especially since a Japanese woman was also staying with us; if I found it offensive, I can only imagine how the lovely Japanese guest in our room must have felt. It might be worth providing some guidance or suggestions regarding expected conduct in shared accommodations—such as appropriate attire when in the presence of other guests, maintaining quiet, and so on—to ensure everyone shows respect for one another.
