  Good value in a grand old hotel with lots of history

  Liked: A great location, friendly staff and comfortable bed. If you're booking a room with a lake view online, it would be best to check in person, our lake view was only visible on tip-toe between buildings! The checkin staff offered us a swap but at €80 more for smaller room, it wasn't worthwhile. The room was comfortable and the breakfast excellent.

  Disliked: The hotel should specify more clearly, exactly which rooms have lake-views (without top-toe!), because it varied from floor to floor. Obviously the higher floors had a better view the bottom floors look out onto the front of the train station.

  Liked: Opposite station Good choice at breakfast

  Disliked: The bathroom had a corner bath which looked very slippery. It was not obvious how to climb in safely. There were no grab rails. The shower was worked by an attachment which could be pulled up and hooked, just about reachable from outside the bath. I told the reception clerk that I thought it was dangerous. She said they had no shower mats. She also said they had no alternative room with a safer shower (200-bed hotel). She said there was no food available as it was a Sunday and directed me to a restauant next door which was overcrowded, they let me sit on a bar stool. She asked me to choose between 7, 8.30 and 10 for breakfast. I would not expect any of the foregoing in a hotel of that size and class. After an unhappy night I told the member of staff then on reception I wanted to leave and explained my safety concerns. She declined a refund in a snappy way but did not charge for breakfast.

  Overall good hotel in excellent position but let down but poorly trained staff

  Liked: Location excellent when arriving by train as opposite station. Room comfortable and catered for all our needs.

  Disliked: Old fashioned and would benefit from some modernisation. The staff at reception were very poor, slow and didn’t appear to know what they were doing. Check-in procedure very cumbersome and pre stay check-in links didn’t work.
