Very good
Central location, city center in short walking distance. Parking garage and supermarket nearby
Liked: I liked the room arrangement and that it had a small fridge/minibar, and also the room was a bit bigger than some other hotel rooms. I used the public parking under the hotel, it was convenient to go up directly to the hotel from the parking garage. Also nice that there is a supermarket in the same building, you don't even have to go outside to go shopping.
Good location, but misleading bed option, poor housekeeping and an outdated feel
Liked: The hotel is close to Rosenheimer Platz station, so getting there from the main station by metro was easy. The area is quiet, like the rest of the city in general. "Hit" and "Aldi" are less than 100 meters away (right below the hotel), so groceries are cheap and convenient. There is also a "dm" nearby, which is a nice bonus if you shoot on film, since they carry it. The area is about 15 to 25 minutes from the Altstadt, so you don’t feel the tourist crowds.
Disliked: tl;dr: misleading bed option, poor housekeeping and an outdated feel The biggest problem was the bed option on Booking. I selected “one extra large bed” instead of “two separate beds” and still got a room with two separate beds. At check-in I asked for an explanation. I asked two different staff members separately, and both gave the same answer: Booking only passes the reservation to the hotel, and the hotel has the final say on room assignment. I then asked if the beds could at least be joined, and was told no, because they are “connected to something”. In the end I pushed the beds together myself. On our last day, the hotel finally joined them with a single mattress topper. This is a very poor customer experience, especially considering how much we paid for the stay. Housekeeping was also questionable. On the day we checked in, I found someone else’s used band-aid under the curtain and a cracker under the bed. I did not tell my wife, who was already upset by the service, but this was too much. On the second to last day, we returned to a room with a strong, musty, rotten smell that was almost unbearable. We slept with the window open in late October just to be able to breathe. The hotel is currently renovating its facade (at the moment of 25-29 Oct), so the view from the windows is construction scaffolding. It is not pleasant to look at. We kept the curtains closed at night because it felt uncomfortable to sleep knowing someone could look into the room from the scaffolding. Nothing like that actually happened during our stay, but it is worth knowing before you book. The whole hotel feels old, not in a "chic" old way, not in "old money" way, but the "old-old" way. There are lots of rooms along a single corridor, and it felt more like checking into a dorm than a hotel. For the price, I expected far better service and cleanliness. I cannot recommend this hotel.
Awesome
Liked: Located very close to the metro and shopping areas. It’s a 15-minute walk to the city center; the staff are great, the hotel is very clean, and we are leaving feeling very satisfied.
Liked: Good breakfast, travel round was very easy from hotel
Outstanding Accommodations in the Heart of Munich
Liked: My wife and I have been staying here for years. When it comes to central location vs. price, this place is hard to beat. The subway line in the basement runs both directly to & from the airport (skip the taxI!), as well as directly to Marienplatz (2 stops) in the dead-center of town. And connection to Theresienwiese and the Oktoberfest (when in season) requires exactly one change. Super-easy!! And if you book the upper-scale rooms, the view of the Marienkirche and downtown Munich is absolutely spectacular!! (the view of the dumpsters on the other side of the hotel is a yawner, but prices are lower). Staff is consistently English-fluent and friendly/effective/efficient, and now that the tram line up the street at "am Gasteig" is running again, getting anywhere in town is positively a snap! (and no risk of DUI!). Hard to go wrong with this one, highly recommended!!
Disliked: Just really nothing not to like. Showers are great. Bar is friendly. The "Hit" supermarket in the basement is right outside the door. The Hofbrauhaus beer hall is two subway (S-Bahn) stops away. And on a sunny day the Chinese Tower and Paulaner/Knockerberg beer gardens beckon!
Disliked: No mini bar
