Where to stay on the Wild Atlantic Way
What the Wild Atlantic Way is like
It is the signposted route along the whole west coast of Ireland, from Kinsale to Donegal: over 2,500 km of cliffs, peninsulas, beaches and islands. Its most famous stops are the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, the Cliffs of Moher, Connemara and the Aran Islands.
Which base to choose
Killarney is the base for the Ring of Kerry and Dingle for its peninsula. Doolin is next to Moher, and Galway, with more hotels and nightlife, is the gateway to Connemara and Aran. Clifden and Westport suit the north, and Kinsale the start in the south.
When to go
From May to September there is more daylight and everything is open; July and August are the most expensive months. It rains at any time of year, and the Atlantic wind is part of the scenery.
Getting around
You need a car to drive it at your own pace, on the left. Shannon, Cork and Kerry have airports, and day trips to Moher, Connemara and Kerry leave from Dublin and Galway.
