Good
A charming hotel let down by poor food, maintenance and service
Liked: The hotel itself was lovely to look at and had a real sense of grandeur. Although the design was a little dated, it still had plenty of charm and character, which made it an enjoyable place to experience. Our room was incredibly spacious, which we really appreciated, and the pool and surrounding facilities were perfectly pleasant too. The hotel bar was a particular highlight and somewhere we really enjoyed spending time. A special mention also goes to the security guard at the front of the hotel, who was exceptionally helpful, friendly and welcoming. He genuinely stood out and made a very positive impression. Overall, the hotel had a lot going for it in terms of appearance, atmosphere and facilities, and there were certainly aspects of our stay that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Disliked: Unfortunately, our stay fell well short of expectations, particularly given the facilities and level of service advertised. The pool area had very few towels available, despite these supposedly being provided for guests. Service was also painfully slow, with an unreasonable wait just to order and receive a drink. The main bar was another disappointment. Rather than feeling like a relaxing hotel bar, it resembled a child's gaming room, with excessive LED lighting and YouTube videos playing on the television, complete with adverts. It really detracted from the atmosphere and wasn't remotely what we expected. Our room was spacious, which was a positive, but it was noticeably dated and poorly maintained. The toilet roll holder repeatedly fell off the wall, and the floors were grimy and didn't appear to have been cleaned particularly thoroughly. There were also several smaller touches missing that had been advertised, such as robes and slippers. While none of these were essential, it's disappointing when a hotel promises certain amenities and then fails to provide them. Individually, these might seem like minor issues, but collectively they leave you feeling that you're not getting the experience you were led to expect. The food was another significant disappointment. Almost everything we ate was either cold, lukewarm or, at best, room temperature. Beyond the temperature issues, the overall quality was generally poor, with very little that we genuinely enjoyed. And the chefs appeared to have a rather extraordinary obsession with Nutella! It seemed to make an appearance at every possible opportunity, whether it was needed or not. A little more attention to the basics of food quality, temperature and variety would have been far more appreciated than finding yet another creative use for chocolate spread.
Liked: Good breakfast. Adding a little Lebanese cuisine like felafel, hummus, babaganoush will help vegetarians.
Will not stay there again
Liked: Clean & tidy and in good secure location.
Disliked: The things in the room were not in working order, e.g air con, shower head etc So we changed room 3 times. Not happy. expecting some refund for inconvenience.
Had a pleasant stay
Liked: Good location, nice breakfast, pool is nice
Disliked: For a five star hotel, did not have tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms or any complimentary water bottles
Terribly misleading
Liked: The property is wells located in the city
Disliked: Not remotely a 5-star hotel – the classification is very misleading Unfortunately, this hotel is nowhere near the standard one should reasonably expect from a 5-star property. More concerningly, advertising it as such is misleading to international and domestic travelers and, in my view, ultimately hurts the image of Moroccan tourism. The property feels extremely dated and poorly maintained. The rooms, furnishings and even the bedding are old and clearly in need of significant renovation and upgrading. The overall experience is much closer to that of an aging 3-star hotel than a genuine 5-star establishment. Breakfast was particularly disappointing. The selection was very limited, there was no fresh juice, and some of the cakes and pastries were literally rock-hard, giving the impression that they had been reheated or left out repeatedly over several days. This is simply not acceptable for a hotel positioning itself at this level. The staff were generally nice and polite, and I do not fault them personally. However, the level of training, service standards and attention to detail are far below what one expects from a 5-star hotel — and in many instances even below a good 4-star standard. This appears to be a management and investment issue rather than an issue with individual employees. Fès is an extraordinary destination and deserves hotels that properly reflect the quality of Moroccan hospitality. This property needs substantial renovation, better food and beverage standards, and significantly more investment in staff training before it should be marketed as a 5-star hotel.
Very pleasant 2 day stay in this 5 star hotel
Liked: The room was very spacious and clean. The staff was really kind and helpful. And there is a lot of accommodation (spa, pool, bar, …)
Disliked: The pressure of the water in the bathroom was maybe a little low
