Exceptional
We were made very welcome and had an excellent stay
Liked: We stayed for a week at the Riad Al Fassia Palace on the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. Tucked away up an improbable alley in the heart of the old medina, from the front door we stepped into a glorious interior, a huge space beautifully adorned with traditional hand-crafted multi-coloured tiles, carved stucco and cedar wood, even with a small fountain in the centre. The host, Fouad, was both kind and helpful and we felt embraced by his family who did much to make our stay special. We enjoyed delicious meals at the nearby family restaurant, Dar Hatim, cooked by Fouad’s wonderful wife Karima and spent a day in the kitchen with her learning about Moroccan cuisine, after visiting the market to buy the ingredients. We went out on trips around Fez, as well as to the Roman ruins at Volubilis and to Meknes with their eldest son, Hatim. We had lots of advice about places to visit. I should also mention that the breakfasts were generous and tasty, the view from the roof terrace amazing and the painted ceiling in our room fabulous.
Disliked: We tried to do too much on the first day exploring Fez, not being used to the heat, which was not sensible.
Nice Riad inside the Medina. Good breakfast
Liked: Comfortable, clean. Great breakfast
Disliked: A bit enclosed inside Medina. Not much natural light in Riad. However had rooftop area, up many stairs.
I highly recommend staying here. It really is a palace!
Liked: They were very welcoming when I arrived and served me tea and cookies! The first room I was given was very small since I am a solo traveler, but when they had more room, they moved me! This is a very amazing building and they are working hard to complete a thorough renovation. The rooftop has a spectacular view, and the whole family is very polite and available.
Not so good
Liked: Kindness and service by the owners and the stuff. Character of the interior. Breakfast was great. Owner was very accommodating on our booking allowing cancellation of one night with no penalty.
Disliked: Whilst the property is in the medina, it is not located in a nice area of it - it feels very dirty once you step outside and until you reach more tourist friendly areas. At night it feels unsafe. Dust on shelves in the room with the safe and coffee machine broken. Water spilling from everywhere in the shower rather than the shower head itself. clay tiles on the floor of the room were dirty. Lamp in the bedside table not working. Mattresses of the sofabeds very uncomfortable. Lack of natural light in the room and in the property throughout with bad artificial light. Not a great atmosphere. Plants in the reception area were pathetic and almost dead. Restoration work in common areas.
A must stay!
Liked: Everything! It is stunningly beautiful. The staff and family are wonderful. Breakfast is tasty and plentiful. You must eat at their restaurant nearby for dinner! It was the best meal and best Riad in Morocco. I would definitely recommend it!
Disliked: Nothing
Fez is unique and this Riad was excellent, we enjoyed it enormously
Liked: The Riad is in the maze of souk alleys in the oldest part of Fez en Bali. The owner has used all local craftsmen to refurbish the interior to exceptional beauty; wood carving, mosaic and carved plaster are all hand made. Fuad is welcoming, knowledgeable and able to help you make the best of the experience. The food in the family restaurant is also excellent.
