Liked: We stayed at Riad Mtamer in Tetouan for four nights and had an amazing time. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Ridwan, who was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. One of the highlights was when he invited us to a special music night featuring traditional Gnawa music – the atmosphere was electric. We met so many friendly young people from Tetouan there, and they were all eager to show us around their city, which made our experience even more special. Mounia took great care of us in the mornings, serving fresh and delicious breakfasts with coffee, mint tea, eggs, cheese, and bread with honey and jam. Everything was beautifully prepared and felt very homely. The riad itself is stunning, full of traditional Moroccan character with its decorative tiling and an indoor water feature that’s part of the old Skoundo water network. The terrace upstairs is a lovely quiet spot to relax and watch the stars at night. The rooms are simple but very comfortable, with plenty of bedding and cushions. Towels were provided, and the communal shower had reliable hot water – something we really appreciated after staying in other places that didn’t! It’s quite easy to find using Google Maps, but definitely follow the directions carefully and walk slowly through the medina so you don’t get lost. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay at Riad Mtamer. The people, the atmosphere, and the beautiful architecture made it one of the most memorable parts of our trip. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Tetouan

Disliked: Extremely disappointing stay – not as advertised We were a family with a child, staying for one night in a 4-bed room with a shared bathroom. Unfortunately, the reality was far worse than the photos, which seem to have been taken years ago when the riad was freshly renovated. Now everything looks worn out and neglected. We were not provided with any basic amenities — no towels, no toilet paper, no soap. Absolutely nothing. When we asked about this after taking a shower, we were told: “Usually people bring their own, and we thought you didn’t need any. If you do, just let us know and we’ll bring it.” This was the strangest excuse imaginable — as if the goal was to save money on guests who manage without asking. After a long journey, instead of simply using the toilet and taking a shower, I had to search for the manager through the Booking app and write: “Please bring me toilet paper, soap, and a towel.” The bedding was synthetic, and one of the sheets had suspicious stains, clearly not washed. The fan was covered in dust, unstable, and kept falling over. The room had only one tiny window, covered with a metal grille, which made it feel even more like a holding cell. To keep the window open, we had to prop it up with a ceramic jug, otherwise it would fall shut. There wasn’t even a trash bin or a simple garbage bag provided in the room, which made it very inconvenient and unhygienic. There was no Wi-Fi in the room, only in the lobby downstairs. The mattress on the bunk bed was extremely uncomfortable — hard and squeaky. The room was empty and depressing — it honestly looked like a holding cell. The shared bathroom was located one floor below, and it looked like something from a prison — mold on the walls, peeling plaster, no shower curtain, and completely bare. The window in the bathroom had no curtain or blind, offering no privacy at all. The glass windows above the doors and gaps in the door frames meant anyone could look inside while you showered or changed.

    Stunning building, nice vibe

Liked: Beautiful buinding. Great staff. Perfect location. The hostel has two buidings in proximity to one another. One of them appears to be more alive and social than the other one.

Disliked: Was a bit tricky to unsderstand where the hostel is, as there is zero signage so I needed a passer by to help me identify the place. The shared bathroom was at the floor below my room, which can make it tricky to use when half asleep in the middle of the night. It was tricky to keep the window open in my room to have airflow, as it closes on its own. I used a scarf to tie the window so it remains open.
