  Great room at great location (if you don't mind a bit of noise)

  Liked: Very nice, spacious room and a very comfortable and pretty bathroom. It has a nice view on the church and it was very clean. To have a coffee, a beer, breakfast or lunch, you can just go downstairs. Food is great, staff very friendly and professional.

  Disliked: The only downside to the room and its location is the noise, despite the double glazing. First it's the church with its bells that besides telling you the time, also plays a nice tune. This seems to be every half our 24 hours a day. Next there was a market on Saturday morning that they were setting up quite early (not sure if this is every Saturday). You get used to it because we slept better the 2nd night.

  Spacious room in the old town with comfy bed and good shower, 11 minute walk from the train station

  Liked: An approximate 11 minute walk from the train station, the room is above the Hofman restaurant where one checks in and out. The staff were cheerful and helpful. The Dutch stairs up to the room were expected and were fairly steep but was only one floor up so you should factor this in the equation. It is directly across from the beautiful and historic Grote Sint-Laurenskerk (Saint Laurens church) at which the pedestrian-only street, full of shops and restaurants, starts. The main square which features the famous Friday cheese market is a few minutes away. Although the church bells went off all night (there were free ear plugs in the room), street and restaurant noise was never an issue. The room was plenty big with a comfortable bed and nice sized bathroom with a spacious shower and good water pressure and hot water. A large grocery store was around the corner.

  Disliked: Keep in mind the somewhat steep Dutch stairs up one floor to the room. Also the church bells went off all night long (not the fault of the owners).

  If you’re heavy sleeper or don’t mind sounds during the night this is an amazing option in Alkmaar

  Liked: Staff was incredibly helpful and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

  Disliked: The f**king church bell went off every 15min the whole night. I know the property can’t do anything about this but if we had known we wouldn’t have booked this. Wrote a complaint to municipality.
