In Porto, the Ribeira and the area around São Bento and the Aliados are the most practical areas, with everything within walking distance, though there are lots of hills. Vila Nova de Gaia, across the Dom Luís I bridge, has the wine cellars and views of the city. Foz do Douro, by the sea, is quieter.
