Praia and the seafront
The Praia district, facing the beach, has most of the hotels, fish restaurants and shops. The narrow streets behind the promenade have guesthouses and holiday rentals. It is the centre of village life, lively until late in summer.
Parking in August is difficult; it is best to check when you book.
Sítio
At the top of the cliff, the Sítio surrounds the sanctuary square. It is quieter, with views over the whole bay, and a walk from the fort and Praia do Norte. The funicular takes you down to the beach in a few minutes.
