Very good
Very Disappointing Stay – Misleading Room Description and Poor Service
Liked: Nothing
Disliked: Very Disappointing Stay – Misleading Room Description and Poor Service I was extremely disappointed with my stay at Hotel Portucalense. The room descriptions did not reflect the actual quality or atmosphere of the rooms, and the service I received was very poor. Upon arrival, I was offered a room in a separate outhouse away from the main hotel. As a woman travelling alone, I did not feel comfortable staying in a small building separate from the main hotel. When I raised my concerns with the receptionist, he insisted that the building was part of the hotel. However, this arrangement had not been made clear to me when I booked. Had I known, I would never have chosen this hotel. The receptionist initially told me that nothing could be done and that I would have to accept the room. After a lengthy discussion, he eventually offered me a room in the main hotel, but made a comment that because I had paid less, this was what I should expect. He also suggested that if I was unhappy, I should contact Booking.com to arrange alternative accommodation. This was particularly frustrating after travelling for many hours, especially as I had no easy way to contact Booking.com at the time. I had booked an Economy Double Room, which had no window. The room had no natural light and no window for natural ventilation. As someone who suffers from claustrophobia, staying in these conditions caused me considerable discomfort and distress. I do not believe the room’s limitations were made sufficiently clear when I made the booking. I have attached photos to show the conditions of the room so that other travellers can make an informed decision before booking. Please be aware that the Economy Double Rooms may have no windows, and I strongly recommend confirming this directly with the hotel before making a reservation. Additionally, the hotel is quite far from the metro station, making it less convenient for getting around. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience.
Liked: The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, explaining and showing us everything we needed. A coffee machine was also provided in the room, along with coffee capsules and sugar, which was a nice touch.
Disliked: The water pressure in the shower was very low The parking space was extremely difficult to access and so narrow that even with the car's side mirrors folded in, we barely managed to fit through.
Liked: Parking was great, a little narrow but plenty of spaces and free during our stay. Joaquin was super friendly and helpful at check-in, and the room makeover was excellent.
Disliked: There was no room makeover or do not disturb sign in the room, so I had to ask for one. It was a bit annoying to then be told that room makeovers had to be requested before 11am, as this was never mentioned at check-in. The room itself felt more like a basement, with no windows and a slightly damp feel, and the bathroom was really small.
It was clean, quiet and the staff were lovely and very helpful
Liked: It was in a residential area and had parking. It was a cab ride away less then 10 Euro’s to the River and bridge and restaurants.
Staff were very helpful
Liked: Good bed, helpful staf
Disliked: Not great value for money
Even though our stay was short we would come back. Staff were friendly and the place was clean and inviting no complain
Liked: It was cute, clean, had a good cultural vibe. Staff were very accommodating and friendly
Disliked: N/A
