Very good
Good for what we needed
Liked: Ellie at Reception was excellent. We had an issue with our first room and she facilitated a move for us without any fuss whatsoever. The hotel was in an great location for the event we were attending.
Disliked: The first room we were offered was a lower ground floor room which felt very dark and dingy. We asked for a higher floor and the same room type higher up was found which was much better. The hotel has a very complicated layout. If you are located in the Small Street side of the hotel you are reliant on an old fashioned lift which only works if the doors are closed properly. If the lift is left open on the 4th floor, be prepared for a hike! We had to walk through the hotel restaurant to get to the area where our room was located, which felt a little odd. We used the cocktail bar attached to the hotel - wine selection extremely poor, and the wine glasses were horrible (and yes I am a wine glass snob!) No atmosphere, and staff who were not at all attentive.
Great Location, great atmosphere, great expereince!
Liked: The location is fantastic, right in the middle of town and in the heart of the action without feeling too busy or noisy, walking distance to everything you want and need.
Disliked: Challenging to maneuver up and down around the property, limited lift access, but being a historic building there is nothing they can really do, and I sitll appreciated the charm it offered.
We had the perfect one night stay and would recommend it
Liked: We got upgraded to a deluxe room free of charge and it was beautiful and grand. We felt so spoiled. The breakfast was delicious and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The spa was so cool and unique.
We had a much needed treat staying here!
Liked: It was a beautiful building, clean, excellent location and we were very comfortable.
Disliked: The stairs to the spa were very steep.
Lovely time regardless of the spa hick up
Liked: The spa was unfortunately closed due to unexpected circumstances very unusual situation that never happened before. Staff did their best to still make the stay nice and pleasant
Disliked: Didn’t like the fact nobody told us on our way to the hotel that the spa was closed. It was our whole point in going to the hotel in the first place
A hotel with "that will do" culture
Disliked: Room 351. The shutters at the windows in the bedroom are missing pins that facilitate opening and closing. So most need to be done individually. Housekeeping must know this as they have to be regularly cleaned. The 2 sinks in the bathroom do not dispense hot water. Another housekeeping issue. There is a build up of mould on the window pane surrounds. Disgusting. This is a build up over time and the hotel has done nothing about it. Perhaps nobody cares. One day our beverage tray was not replenished. Sorted out by reception in the evening. The cooked breakfast was dismal. Served at just about tepid. Therefore cold after 2 mins of eating it. The poached eggs were rock hard and unpleasant. I get the impression that nobody cares much about the service standards at this hotel. Not what I expect at £168 per night.
