Fabulous
We’ve stayed at the Maltsters several times but the breakfast arrangements have recently taken a dive
Liked: Location, close to family, good parking.
Disliked: Somewhat random breakfast arrangement, choice of cereals odd, cereal bowls were filled with milk rather than a jug provided. After our 1st morning we went elsewhere for breakfast. Also the radiators in the rooms should have been turned up to a 2 setting, not set to ‘anti frost’.
Staff were very helpful
A popular "pub with rooms" in a good location
Liked: Friendly staff, nice room with good amenities, good breakfast,
Disliked: A heavy dependence on technology was irritating, the room was not serviced each day so we had to chase down additional tea making stuff periodically. The bar staff were expected to look after the residents as well as their other duties which put them, and us, in a difficult position at times. While the food was good and well prepared the ambiance of the bar and dining rooms was a bit dull and oppressive. The single rain shower head was not popular with my wife, as it wasn't possible to shower without getting her hair wet.
Overall we enjoyed our stay we didn't let the lack of food ruin it
Liked: Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast overall was good. The food at dinner was good but many of our choices were not available.
Disliked: Having arrived at the pub I had requested a bottle of bubbly in the room as our friends were celebrating their anniversary. This was not put in the room but opened and given to our guests on arrival which meant we had to drink it straight away. We booked a table for the second night stay for dinner. They couldn't find our booking. They ran out of clean wine glasses as expected us to drink wine from a tumbler. The didn't have fillet steak and several other dishes on the menu and also the first two choices of wine although the table next to us got the same bottle we asked for about an hour later? Also no jam at breakfast and asked for two eggs, two sausage and only received one of each
Booked breakfast for 08:00 but no staff and no breakfast ‼️
A fun, comforable place to stay in Cardiff
Liked: The bed was comfy, breakfast was amazing, parking on site was easy and right there. Will was there to greet us and check us in, and he was around for most of our stay. He was incredibly hospitable and made our stay even better. This was a great location for exploring Cardiff. We chose not to drive into the city, which worked out great because the bus stop was right across the street. And Llandaff Cathedral was less than a 5 minute walk away and was amazing. Would definitely recommend staying here when in Cardiff.
