Exceptional
Liked: Beautiful setting. Gorgeous apartment. Spotless and very homely. Owners were very accomodating.
Disliked: Not enough kitchenware. Only 1 cup in the kitchen. No hot water in the morning. Had to take a cold shower. Iron could have been available in the apartment.
Gorgeous memory in such a gorgeous house
Liked: Beautiful gardens and kind host. Loving everything in the kitchen, which helping us a lot.
Disliked: A little cold in the room at night. I suppose the heating system needs some time to perform its best effect, especially in such a big house😆
Wonderful place with character and charm
Liked: A stunning, historic property – but unfortunately a disappointing end to our stay Ballachulish House is absolutely stunning, as is its location. The apartment is full of character and history, with immaculate decoration and beautiful furniture. The house itself feels incredibly grand and charming, and the beautifully maintained gardens and surroundings make it a very special place to stay. Unfortunately, we lowered our score for comfort because we had no hot water available in the morning. We had arrived quite late and were leaving early as part of a road trip around Scotland, so timing was important to us. My son went for an early run and returned to find there was still no hot water. In the end, I had to wash my hair with cold water and have a quick wash at the sink, which delayed our plans and was obviously not ideal. However, the most disappointing part came after we left. The owner called us asking what we had done to the door because apparently it was no longer closing properly. I was genuinely astonished and quite upset by this, as we are very responsible guests, take great care of the places we stay in and had done absolutely nothing to the door. We had also left it closed when we departed. My personal thought is that it may simply have been an issue with the wooden door expanding after we turned the heating on, particularly if the apartment had previously been kept cooler, but of course I cannot know for certain. What left a sour note was feeling that we were being blamed for something we had not done, while there was no acknowledgement or apology for the inconvenience we had experienced with the lack of hot water that morning. It is a shame because Ballachulish House itself is gorgeous, historic and full of charm, and there was so much about the property that we genuinely loved. I just wish the communication afterwards had been handled differently, as it unfortunately changed how we felt about an otherwise very memorable place.
Disliked: Nothing.
Fantastic location, spotless appartment but rude staff
Liked: Fantastic location, spotless apartment with great atmosphere. Very clean, very nice garden.
Disliked: What spoiled it was the unpleasant young female host, who showed up ať our door and aggressively demanded we leave at 10 am sharp despite booking.com saying checkout by 10.30. The welcoming was also brusque. Outside the flat the rest of the house was in surprisingly bad condition.
Absolutely stunning location with the mountains in the background and the apartment itself was beautifully furnished. It
Liked: Absolutely stunning location with the mountains in the background and the apartment itself was beautifully furnished. It was a dream
Peaceful and rejuvenating stopover for long exhausting drives
Liked: We came here after days of terrible weather. This lovely residence made our day with its beautiful garden, close range of access to the loch as well and its neat yet well-preserved traditional interior design. Without a doubt, it was very organized and cleaned for anyone who is big on hygiene for hotels. You have everything here; cooking equipment, cutlery, picnic basket, and two beautiful elegant bathrooms. The host is an amiable well-mannered person and seems to have interesting life stories too. We wished we got to know him a bit.
Disliked: The water was not hot for some reason later half of the night. Since I didn’t want to disturb rest of the host, I didn’t further ask about it. If with a good hot shower, the stay here would have been perfect. Since it’s peak season, it’s a pity we couldn’t book more nights due to limited availability. For those visiting here, please plan your trips ahead.
