  Good basic hostel in stunning location - great for families and children

  Liked: Large old-school hostel in a beautiful lakeside setting in its own grounds with sporting facilities and grassy areas. The views from the dorm over the lake were amazing. Excellent breakfast with plenty of room to sit inside or outside. Bar with soft drinks available at front desk. Children and teenagers were having a great time running around and enjoying the facilities. Good seating areas. Regular buses into town. Catered to families and groups.

  Disliked: I was given a dorm bed on the seventh floor, even though I told staff I had a knee problem. There's no elevator, so eight flights of stairs to get down to the breakfast room and laundry. The one washing machine broke down with all my clothes inside it - it took over 12 hours before a member of staff was able to get the door open after two technicians failed to do so.

  Practical solution for hiking & biking, all the basics, great breakfast

  Liked: Friendly and helpful staff despite a busy time of arrival. Great breakfast, lots of info materials on site, safe and covered bike parking.

  Disliked: Access to the lake is cumbersome as the bus is infrequent and the walk quite long, especially with younger kids. I would only bring younger kids if I came by car or by cargo bike.

Good to know

All guests need to be members of the DJH (German Youth Hostel Association) or Hostelling International. Membership can be purchased at the reception upon arrival.

It costs EUR 7 per year for Guests up to the age of 26 and EUR 27.50 for families or guests aged 27 and above. Each year from June onwards, membership will be half price for guests purchasing a DJH membership for the first time.

Foreign guests need a Hostelling International Card (EUR 18), if they are not member of a national Hostelling Federation. For single overnight stays a welcome stamp can purchase on arrival, which costs EUR 3.50.

Please note that check-in is not possible after 19:30.

Please note that for bookings of 6 guests or more, special terms and additional supplements may apply.

Each guest aged 18 and over must pay an additional tourist tax of EUR 1.50 per day to the city of Konstanz.

A deposit may be required at the property.
