  Great hotel, stunning views

  Elegant quiet luxury -- a return trip that fulfilled all expectations

  Liked: We honeymooned here 30+ years ago and this was a sentimental return trip with our (now) adult children. The property has retained it's beautiful authentic Cretan character (furniture, tapestries, art, etc) and quiet luxury without feeling forced or ostentatious. By comparison we visited the sister hotel of Porto Elounda Golf and Spa for dinner one night and couldn't believe the contrast — it felt like a big brand, commercial hotel that could have been anywhere. Our room was huge w/ spectactular views overlooking the bay, the Yacht Club is dreamy for lunch and cocktails, and the main beach is wonderful -- not too crowded, not to empty. Elounda Mar is a very special place.
