A facility in an ideal location, but with toilet reached via a dangerous staircase

Liked: The location was excellent - right in the middle of Haarlem - only one minute's walk from St Bavo, The price was in principle reasonable, but see next........

Disliked: 1. The toilet and shower were located in the basement reached by a spiral stair with no handrail. In UK such a staircase would be illegal and such a facility would not be allowed by local council to operate. I wonder if Gemeente Haarlem or Provincie Noord Holland know about this. As it stands this staircase is dangerous: as an 84-yearold I had to hold on to the back of the previous stair treads. I suggest a handrail be provided urgently. 2. There is an adjacent property the other side of a door at the top of the spiral staircase No soudproofing is given, and regulalrly a door is banging and people go noisily up some stairs. 3. There was a television, but it had no antenna, so disn't work. 4, The cellar area where the toilet and shower are located had a double bed which was unmade - no attempt had been made to clean this area, and towels and bed-linnen were strewn over the floor. 5. The heating was not switched on, and the room got quite cold.

Liked: Very central location. Clean. Sabine dealt with us quickly and reimbursed late check out fee quickly.

Disliked: We probably did not check properly when booking. Very steep staircase to bedroom and also staircase to mezzanine lounge. I hurt back on 2nd day and we ended up moving accommodation at extra cost. Couch very low and uncomfortable and no instructions re tv or coffee machine. Be aware if you have mobility issues room 6 ground floor is not for you. Communal kitchen was messy and unattractive.

Liked: It was a good location, since the bedroom was in the wine cellar there was no noise Slightly strange that they were putting scaffolding up with us inside but didnt effect us too much. Some very slammy doors in the other properties though.

Please do not stay here - Unclean, unsafe and uncomfortable

    Liked: Please don't book here!

Disliked: Please read! Unfortunately, our stay was extremely disappointing. The space felt unclean, unsafe and uncomfortable. In our room 7 (ground floor and souterrain) the sleeping area and bathroom were located in a basement! Which had a very strong damp, mould smell which was overpowering the whole space. In fact very unhealthy to breath this air in. So - We didn’t feel safe to sleep there, so slept upstairs in the kitchen space on a spare mattress instead. In the bathroom, we found underwear from a previous guest hanging on the radiator. The mattresses, bed linen and towels were very worn and showed marks and clear signs of use. We found hairs on the sheets. There was also a door that could not be locked and provide access to another part of the building, which did not feel secure at all. Compared to the photos shown on the website, the actual room felt gloomy, unclean and had an uncomfortable atmosphere. We were also surprised to see afterwards that several previous guests had already mentioned similar issues in their reviews, and that these concerns seem to have been present for quite some time. Unfortunately, we did not read these reviews before booking. We were looking at the overall rating of 6.9 on Booking.com and needed to find accommodation at very short notice for the night, so we relied on the overall rating when making our decision. The accommodation responded that they would have been happy to resolve these issues if we had contacted them during our stay. However, looking at previous reviews, we noticed that the strong basement smell, ventilation issues and the unsecured door have been mentioned by other guests for quite some time. This makes us question why these issues have apparently still not been resolved.

    Generally all good

Liked: Generally speaking, everything was fine, and the location was excellent. The flat itself was quite large, one room upstairs with kitchen facilities, TV and sofa, which had a bed in the room, and one room downstairs with double bed, toilet and bathroom. It was very good of the owner to leave snacks out on arrival.

Disliked: The double bed downstairs isn't quite level, you can accidentally slide off one side, as I found out a couple of times. The downstairs room was a bit dark. People coming and going, you could hear the door slam very loudly and hear people quite loudly from the upstairs room.
