  Avoid. There has to be something better in a similar location for a not much higher fare

  Liked: The hotel is located close to the centre and very close to some of the city's main museums. It is also only 20 mins away on foot from the city's main train station, and close to many tram lines. It is also close to some very good eateries and very conveniently located for Rotterdam's main hospital.

  Disliked: From the pictures, I was expecting something simple and minimalistic, with little in the way of frills, but clean. Instead, the sink plug was not working and the toilet was filthy, with traces of urine even on the top of the seat. As I got there after a six hour journey that had started early in the morning and I was on a timer, and given that a toilet cleaning product had conveniently been left in the bathroom, right above the toilet (guests are perhaps expected to clean the dirt off the toilet from previous guest as a matter of course??), I proceeded to clean the seat, so that I could use it (although I thought I would nonetheless cover it in toilet paper). One of the twin room duvet covers was also stained. The duvets, pillows and mattresses had clearly been there a very long time and seen better days, with the mattresses sagging and really unsupportive. The walls are covered in old-looking, dark wall paper, that serves the purpose showing the dirt less than a light-coloured one, and the same goes for the carpet in the bedroom. When I approached a member of staff and complained about the filthy toilet and stained bedding, she immediately became defensive and pretended to not understand the word 'stained'. I snapped and referred to the toilet using a word that I now regret saying (but very appropriate!) and the lady told me to go to bed - no interest in understanding what might have gone wrong and why a previously friendly guest might appear to be so displeased!!! I always prefer to use independent providers rather than large chains, but this time I wished I had booked myself at a Premier Inn or similar!

  If the opportunity arises, we would stay there again

  Liked: Location, location. The staff was very good. The breakfast was nice and the eara for having the breakfast was neat, clean, and inviting.
