Outstanding location but with some drawbacks to be aware of

Liked: A nutritious and tasty breakfast, but the cooked breakfast portion was smaller than I would have liked. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The location in the historic centre of Utrecht is superb, just a 2-minute walk from the DOM cathedral.

Disliked: The staff member whom we spoke to on arrival was unable to help with restaurant recommendations. Consider whether guests could be provided with an easy-to-produce guide to the best local restaurants. That said, the manager we spoke to at check-out kindly recommended an excellent restaurant in Antwerp, our next destination. Car parking in Utrecht is an issue. Dropping off luggage at the front door was easy, but the car park that was suggested charged Euros 105 for a two-day stay. Ouch! Overall, Anne & Max is a vibrant cafe on the ground floor, with bed & breakfast accommodation above. Two distinct characteristics, each of which was fine, but it did not feel like a boutique hotel.

    Served the purpose

    Liked: Location is great

Disliked: 1. Room looked clean only on the surface, but there were soap stains on the woden window area next to the sink. 2. No bedside tables, beening very inconvenient 3. Fridge was in the middle of the entry way, perfect to stumble upon 4. The elevator is super slow and there is no handle on the door on the ground floor 5. Cafe/ lobby area was very cold as all doors were always kept opened with 13°C outside and it was not pleasent.

    It was all rather disappointing

Liked: The location in central Utrecht.

Disliked: The room was rundown. Lighting was dull with all control by the door. No bedside lights or tables and one light could not be turned off. The air conditioning made random distracting noises when turned on, and the floor by the shower felt rotten. Breakfast was nice there was no choice.

A lovely hotel room, very comfortable with friendly staff. Coffee downstairs bonus, however noisy during evenings from

    Liked: Location is great!

Disliked: We had a street facing room and it was really noisy in the evenings. Especially over weekend. The rooms are also not soundproof, we could hear the people above walking and talking.

I won’t recommend this hotel because I’m uncomfortable about having only a digital phone key rather than a proper key c

    Liked: Location

Disliked: Only having digital keys on phone. Ours didn’t work the second night. It was fortunate my phone hadn’t run out of battery to phone the hotel emergency number. I’m not sure what I would have done if I had lost my phone or the battery had died at that time of night.
