Excellent location and a beautiful building

Liked: Amazing location and a beautiful building. Great breakfast.

Disliked: The room could benefit from redecoration. Also, it’s a small issue but there was no bedside lamp which was an irritant. There was a smell of drains throughout the building but perhaps that was temporary.

Would not recommend, but nice location

Liked: Wonderful setting. Can hear birdsong & wind rustling the leaves. Church bells & the occasional bicycle whizz by. Very calm & peaceful with beautiful buildings & foliage all around. Much to see.

Disliked: Hotel Museumkwartier smells bad. Aside from the fusty smell at reception, there is a stale smell of cooking throughout. I was awoken each night not by a single sound, but by the stench of cooking. There are hot plates in each room for cooking which give it a bedsit feel... & odour. The decor appears shabby chic in photos, but in real life it's just shabby. The towels were clean. I simply had to inspect the mattress because the room initially smelt musty despite the windows being open. The mattress, pillows and bedding all appeared to be spotless. However, the throw blanket smelled fusty & moldy - mixed with fabric softener. I immediately removed this & asked the housekeeper to take it from the room. I explained it smelled bad. Later that day, I saw it folded haphazardly and stored amongst the clean towels & supplies in the hall - in a closet with old shelving & fusty walls. This explains the funky smell. I couldn't eat in the accommodation just based on the appearance. But effort was made by housekeeping to keep it clean. The modernised toilet was spotless. The toiletries were very basic. Furnishings seem to be cast offs. I was very close to taking the hit & boookig a nice hotel instead. It's a very old building with masses of potential. It is not a hotel, I would describe it as a hostel. There may or may not be anyone at reception throughout your stay. I am not sure about value because I'm unsure of the going rate. I chose it based on location & it's purported cleanliness. Though charming in its own way, it was not to my taste. Or smell.

Liked: The location was very good, near to the center of Utrecht and a short walk to venues.

Disliked: The hotel was surrounded by scaffolding, not that it's a problem being inside, but there was building work going on. I had the thrilling experience of sitting on the loo as builders worked right outside my window, the bathroom window has no way of closing with blinds or curtains for privacy. On entering the "hotel", the lobby smelt of raw sewage, thankfully it didn't get up to the top floor where we were staying. Among the building noise there was a constant sound like water running or a fan somewhere during the night. I had to do a couple of business meetings in the room, with the constant sound of impact nail guns and guys shouting at each other. The staff did apologize to us and gave us a continental breakfast to ease the situation. Oh it's not a hotel per say, it's more like small self catering rooms with a hotplate, a single butter knife and a pot (maybe they don't cook). The fridge was stocked with some reasonably priced cold drinks. Oh it took 20 minutes to get into the hotel, my fault as my phone didn't have a signal, not the fact I was ringing all three bells to get in, I did t know there isn't front desk staff there during the full day. The staff were nice when we seen them. On a last note, there's no lift, so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with a disability or movement issues with the winding staircases.

Beautiful, comfortable and quiet stay in wonderful Utrecht!

Liked: Lovely, small boutique hotel in the quiet part of town! This hotel is near a lively selection of pubs and restaurants, as well as small shops and grocers, and it’s a short 15 minute walk to the town’s main tourist attractions. Utrecht is a lovely, vibrant city, and this hotel was an absolute gem!
