Fabulous experience
Liked: The hotel is incredible as is the location. The reception staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the building - a stunning place. The food in the restaurant was delicious too.
Disliked: The price of the wine in the restaurant was extortionate.
Worth the experience once
Liked: Common areas are beautiful, staff are pleasant and attentive. Dining menu is interesting albeit pricier than we’d gotten used to, still tasty. Buffet breakfast very good. However, if you’re expecting a five star room, not getting it. Standard rooms are clean but dated. It’s still a gorgeous old building and expensive to maintain
Lovely hotel, but terribly neglected / dated rooms
Liked: Lovely historic property. Common areas are lovely.
Disliked: We booked the Junior Suite (room 107) at €315 per night. The room was terribly neglected - needs some taking care of if charging guests get price per night.
Great value for a slice of Portuguese history

Stay here to have the woods to yourself later in the day or early in the morning
Liked: The location was perfect for exploring Mata do Buçaco. The building is beautiful. Excellent breakfast.
Disliked: The room felt dated and the bathroom needs updating (rusted fixtures).
