Which town to choose
Aranda de Duero is the base town, with underground wine cellars beneath the centre. Peñafiel has its castle with the Wine Museum, Peñaranda de Duero a very well preserved medieval square, and in villages such as Roa, Sardón or Valbuena there are hotels in wineries and in a Cistercian monastery.
When to go
In autumn, with the harvest, and in spring. Weekends see a lot of wine-tourism demand.
Getting around
Aranda is an hour and a half from Madrid on the A-1 and Peñafiel 45 minutes from Valladolid. A car is best for visiting wineries.
