Historic centre and Calle Isilla

Between the Plaza Mayor, the Plaza del Trigo and the church of Santa María la Real lies the Aranda of old. Here are the roast lamb restaurants and several of the underground cellars open to visitors, with their zarceras (ventilation chimneys) visible in some streets. Calle Isilla and the streets around it are the place to go out for wine and tapas.

If you stay in this part, you have everything on foot, including the church of San Juan. It is the best choice for a food-focused weekend, without having to drive after a tasting.

Best-rated in this area: Hostal Elvira, with a score of 8.5 from 1,366 reviews.

Allendeduero

Across the bridge over the Duero is the Allendeduero district, residential and with wider streets. Crossing the river you are back in the centre on foot in no time, and the car parks are less crowded. It suits families and those looking for a tourist flat for several days. By the river there are tree-lined walks for strolling or running.

Best-rated in this area: Hostal Elvira, with a score of 8.5 from 1,366 reviews.

By the A-1

The A-1 motorway between Madrid and Burgos skirts the city. Near its exits there are hotels with their own parking, designed for business travellers and those breaking a journey north. From here you head straight out to the Ribera wineries without crossing the centre. For dinner in the centre, the most convenient option is a taxi or a long walk.

Sinovas and the surroundings

Sinovas, a small village belonging to Aranda, has the church of San Nicolás de Bari, with a Mudéjar wooden ceiling. In this area and the nearby countryside there are rural houses among vineyards, ideal for a wine break as a couple or group.

You will need a car, or someone to drive, to go from winery to winery.
