What the Tena valley is like
The Tena valley is a valley in the Pyrenees of Huesca, in the upper basin of the Gállego river, with the Formigal and Panticosa ski resorts, the Panticosa spa at 1,600 metres and the Lanuza reservoir.
Which village to choose
Formigal is for ski-in, ski-out stays; Panticosa for a village with more life and the spa nearby. Biescas, at the entrance to the valley, is cheaper and a few minutes from both resorts.
When to go
The ski season, from December to April, is the most expensive. In summer the valley fills with hikers, and in July the Pirineos Sur festival brings concerts to Lanuza.
Getting around
It’s about half an hour by car from Jaca. In winter there are buses to the slopes, but for the rest of the year a car is best.
